Steering Shaft TSB?

I had this done and it doesn't feel any better. It was never that bad really and you only noticed it on gravel roads, but I wonder if they really replaced it at all? Is there anyway to tell? Does the replacement look different from stock?

 

I'm curious about this too. Had the steering tsb done, even cross referenced the new part to the tsb document to ensure they got the 'new' part and not just replaced the old one with another stock one.

As Jim mentioned, it wasn't that bad before, but I can still feel a looseness when going over speed bumps slowly.

 

Yes, TSB had no effect on me either. In fact, it now feels worse. There is a thread on a zip tie fix and seems to have worked for many folks:

Unfortunately, those of us that got the TSB can't do it because the new bushing they put in the shaft doesn't have enough room to get a zip tie in there. My biggest gripe with this truck is this steering rattle.

 

Interesting , getting the TSB done made my steering way better , no more slop .

 

Had the TSB and no improvement. Drive on gravel daily and is very noticeable. At this point I'm accepting it as the nature of the beast.

 

Wonder if it's something else entirely and not the intermediate shaft. Some folks with the TSB say things are better, but many say things are the same or worse.

I have heard the tilt column u joint can cause issues, but I played with mine and greased it and doesn't seem to be the case. I'm out of ideas. Sigh.

 

Mine is way worse. Drives me nuts. I can hear it knocking, and so can my passengers under the right conditions. The dealer says it's my inner tie rod ends that may need replacing, but can't tell me that it will actually fix it. Any know if this sounds like bull, or is worth considering? I've got 40K on my truck.

 

Any updates on this? I was about to contact the dealer and schedule to get this done but now I'm on the fence after reading some of the threads.

 

I have used a o-ring packed into the bushing and it did the trick for me.
