Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Honestly I don't know that the price is too high for it for someone who actually needs and wants better storage back there. I think those of us who think it is to pricey is because we really don't have a big need for the extra storage. Overall I think your price is very reasonable considering materials, labor, and shipping.

If it was around $100, I would consider getting one, but not at that current price.

He hasn't made them yet. He put his idea out there and is taking suggestions and asking if we WOULD buy them.

Well it seems kinda expensive cause you can get a full size tool box at homedepot or lowes for almost that price

I don't need it to be steel, ABS plastic would be fine. Hell I may try and make a fiberglass one. I only need to put straps and bungies in it. I may just mod the stock one, I don't care how it looks behind the door.

I may tackle this as soon as next week, i'm doing one for my truck either way but my plan would be to get everything lazer cut and then have my buddy weld them together. Do a batch all at one and then ship them, do a group buy, more or less

Depends on the quality.your not that far off on price from other company.are these going to be laser cut?? I say have them all laser cut on table in 1 piece, don't fold them together and mail them out flat..let the buyer bend them.sell them cheaper and less work putting them together yourself. Well that's what i would do.
Edit: I see your post above this one stating "laser cut"

I thought for those who would like to lock up a firearm, or any high value items at times, the tuff box was a cheaper option to the console lock box option. And, its a lot bigger. I am one of those not looking for extra storage, but security. If someone breaks into your truck, guns and valuables are gone. If you made a lockable box with the security of a tuff box or console lock you may gain more interest

$100 shiped would be my limit, I was looking at the Tuffy when Costco had it for $125+tax and thought to myself only if it was $30 or $40 cheaper.

I would pay $80 for a larger than stock ABS one that seals good. Don't really need a steel one. Just my .02

i can't weld plastic, plus i would trust my trailer hitch and a bunch of tie downs in a plastic welded bin either.

I have a console vault for my firearms and i love it, but i wouldn't want to store a pistol in the bed of my truck, no way

I understand, I would never store it there and drive around, but if I had to leave my firearm in the truck and wanted it to be secure, I believe both options would work. Do you agree?

If you're just looking for more storage space, ABS plastic at ~$75 would be ideal. If you're going to make it out of metal, might as well put a lock on it anyways.

The reason I havn't bought the Tuffy one is because it's a bit expensive for me. ~$100 for a metal one would be fine.

Thinking making deeper storage pockets. How about tacking original one out, cutting bottom out (maybe keeping stiffening edge) then extend by us much as possible using aluminum or plastic and secure it by rivets. Any suggestions?
