I made one of these a while back but the poor guy had to pay over $100 in shipping. So I decided the next one I built I'd do a style that breaks down to cut that shipping cost in half. This one is going from CA to FL via FedEx 4 day ground.

This is model #2. It breaks in half, uses the 2 front factory bed bolts on a normal bed 2nd gen, rear feet/nut plates clear ribs and cross members underneath the bed, and is the T handle style. A ratchet strap style is also available.

    Features

    1-1/2" .120 welded tube

Uses 2 bed bolts to cure "pull through" commonly found with aftermarket carriers.

Has 2 nut plates for under the bed on the rear feet

rear feet / holes land in the correct locations (bed ribs up top, composit ribs underneath & cross members

T handle or Ratchet strap hold down

Welded tab to secure a cable lock through

Breaks down for more affordable shipping

Holds a big ass tire & wheel

It's on there. Click products, search Tire Carrier, and it should pop up. Powder coating is available, however, I normally send large items raw/unfinished as I really don't want to be caught in the middle when something shows up scratched due to the abuse items normally see when being shipped.

It never fails, whenever I enter the store, the people behind the counter always look at me like I'm bringing something from another planet in. I've learned that shipping items is usually more difficult than building them, thanks to the people behind the counter. If it's not in a 4x4 brown box or a envelope going to grandma they immediately get concerned which is very irritating.

I wire tie the items to each other, then shrink wrap them and use FedEx since they are the most affordable and also allow items to be shipped without a box. Boxing large items is a nightmare and increases the shipping cost, I've shipped enough weird things to know.

Nice work, mayb I could have you build me a custom tire carrier. my friend has been lagging on building it for me for a year, I even have all the tube sitting in my garage!
It's a simple "expo" style design and easily detachable so that I can use my snugtop.

Lagger! haha. What kind of tubing? Has it rusted yet? Any pics of your idea or the parts you currently have? If you do decide to move on w/o your friend, I'm sure I could put something together for you in a affordable range. I'd love for you to finally have you carrier. Something simple like the NFab but more affordable and able to be removed by one person easily. PM or post up in this thread. Thanks.

Dude, that is a really nice carrier! Solid construction and built with shipability (I suppose that's a word) in mind.

    These should sell well.

Thanks for the nice responses guys. Very much appreciated. That's why I like TW...good people.

Here are a few pics of a bumper and a Y ratchet strap tire carrier I just did for a 1st gen. He's painting and mounting them tomorrow and I'll post up pics when he sends me some. I can't wait to see them on the truck.

Also, great news....my friend just bought a 08 Taco and is going to leave it with me when he goes on a trip in a week or so!!! Rear tube bumper with fill plates is first on my agenda.

    Beefed Taco,

What's the dimension from the floor to where the tubes bolt up to the front main beam? Also, what's the width between where the tubes bolt up to the front main beam?

I need to see if my 4wheeler will clear it

This thing is still wrapped up and sitting here. Still haven't heard from the guy. I'm going to send him another email.

I can most likely get these measurments through the wrapping for you unless you've moved on and don't need them now.

    Very nice work!!

Are the bed rails strong enough for a tire carrier? Id like to have one that can fold up so i could still use the bed.. I've seen one or two of them so far..
