They posted that on all FJ's at least up to 09. My 08 had it too. Toyota released a statement that it didn't matter if you ran regular.

 I really hope you're kidding. Premium is no "better" for your engine. The oil industry brands these products as "regular" "plus" and "premium" just to trick the layman into thinking hes treating his vehicle. The only difference is the octane level.

As far as actual quality, that's more based on what station you are buying it at. Chevron Regular is just as good as Chevron Premium. In fact, you're probably getting fresher gas buying Regular since they move so much more of that. The Premium has been sitting there for at least an extra week I would bet, especially in Eugene which isn't a metro area with tons of traffic.

I buy premium now because my STi is tuned to run off of it. If I ran regular in a turbo car that requires premium, I'm asking for a destroyed engine.

For a Toyota engine which is big displacement for the amount of power they put out - you could put in gas that is 1/4 water and it would probably still run well.

I wouldn't expect much more from a duck fan. But in case you think I'm just trying to start an argument - here you go: http://blog.truecar.com/2011/03/03/premium-vs-regular-gas/

Yeah man. I hear it all the time...it's fuckin 50/50 on reports i've read and what people say. My mechanic buddies (one is a race car driver) says Premium burns cleaner, doesn't foul plugs as often, etc. Fuck knows what to believe really.

Like I said...it's what? $3 more or so for a full tank of Premium over regular?

    Hell, I don't know.

When I ran regular for awhile, my exhaust was rich and nasty smellin. Switched to Premium and it went away.

yeah it has a lot to do with compression ratio also as to what you should be running. twin turbo STI probabaly has a compression ratio of something like 13:1 which is high so it needs a higher octane which in essence has more oxygen so it will burn hotter and compress easier. tacoma probaly has something like 8:1 compression no need for premium but i think the early FJ's up till 09' or whenever they switched had an 11:1 compression which is stupid high for a truck or SUV which is why it needed "premium" gas. IIRC

Yep. I've read that same article before. I only go to Chevron or 76 too. IDK man. I just know that that damn rich exhaust was headache inducing.

    Stock 2004 STi - 8.2:1

    Stock 2007 Tacoma - 10:1

It's all about the Turbo that makes the high "compression"

Yep. Power numbers have been pretty much identical from 2004 all the way up to present. Always rated about 300 hp at the crank. 08+ are at 306 I believe
