Tacoma For a Tundra

Should I trade my taco for this tundra i found? Its a regular cab, short bed, and has the 5.7L....... needless to say it would fly

I like the Tundras but I wouldn't trade my Tacoma for one. A good friend has one and complains frequently about the gas mileage, says he's getting around 13-14 city. If you have a need for a fullsize then go for it, otherwise I'd stick with what you got.

 

I would keed the taco, unless your not planning on pulling alot of stuff, you may not see it now but going from 4 door to single cab SUCKS.i did it and never leaving 4 door anymore. just my opinon. oh yeah happy b-day man

This one has been catching my eye lately... I like having a backseat though...

 

I could have picked a brand new one up for a few grand more than I got my Tacoma for, but the gas mileage is just plain awful.

I say keep your Tacoma, unless you just aren't happy with it any more and feel you need a full-size.

The Tundra has a 5.7L V8 while the Tacoma has a 4.0L V6. It just depends on your needs. Do you need to tow heavy things or do you need more payload? The Tacoma is decent for smaller trailers, campers, & boats. The consensus for towing with the V6 Tacoma is about 3500 lbs. even though it's rated for 6500 lbs. Some say you'll ruin the trans if you go over 3500 constantly. The Tacoma's payload is about 1300 lbs. so if you constantly go over that then you should consider the Tundra. Tundra's average 13-14 mpg while the Tacoma averages 18-20. Like I said, it depends on your needs.

 

To be perfectly honest, the reg. cab short bed Tundra looks straight up ridiculous. Looks like a f-ed up whale instead of just a whale, but if you want it, go for it.

I did the same thing. Traded a 06 Tacoma for a 07 Tundra reg. cab 5.7.Yes it would fly but after a few months I realized I made a mistake.The Tundra is a big bloated pig or so it seemed.I liked the size of the Tacoma better and the next time I traded I went back to the Tacoma.A much better fit for me.

 

According to toyota.com the payload on that type of tundra is 1700 pounds. I am not sure the benefit to the trade-off to go to a big V-8 for 400 lbs more of payload. Again citing toyota, 9200 pound towing capacity is nice, if frequent, heavier towing is going to be in the picture. This of course is pretty much summarized in your post. I think if the OP were to trade for the tundra, it would be more of a sacrifice than a gain considering the transition to a reg cab. All in all informative post as I am looking toward the future and deciding if full size compared to a taco is the way to go.

 

Why stop there? Slap on the TRD supercharger! 504 hp hauling 5000 lb curb weight.

 

Those things fly. I went to test drive a tundra and the salesman said that I should test drive the 5.7 reg cab SB. I said why the hell not. They are almost as fast as a supercharged tacoma.

 

i would keep the Taco that is just me, if u frequently carry people you are going to miss your double cab once you get a regular cab

 

If you have to ask other people to convince you one way or the other, you don't even know what you want. Better just keep your Tacoma and save the cash.

 

I think Tundras would be sweet trucks......if they offered a 5.7 with a manual transmission. Til then, wouldn't even consider it!

Trade Tacoma for Tundra?

I actually did this in 2007. I traded a TRD sport 4x4 Tacoma auto dbl cab for a 2008 crewcab Tundra 4x4 with the 5.7. It was an awesome truck and I was just starting to build it up. My reason for doing it was because it's a bigger vehicle for the family and it actually got better/same gas mileage than my Tacoma. It has 4 wheel disc brakes, the whole rear window rolled down which was pretty cool. Why this feature is not on the Tacoma I don't know?

Anyways, there are more reasons so it was a no brainer at the time. The Tundra is built. It's definitely not your average half ton truck. Unfortunately I was forced to sell it because of a divorce. I went through a few cars after that and was now able to buy my 2011 Tacoma SR5. I can't afford another Tundra.

In hindsight, I should have tried harder to keep that Tundra. But I paid off a lot of bills by getting rid of it and I like this Tacoma I have now with the manual trans, so it worked out.
