Purchasing used '10 Tacoma, what to look for?

Hey guys

I found a pretty nice '10 Tacoma about 160 miles from my location. I am planning to make the trek this week to go test drive and make a deal. It is a single-owner carfax, and there has been no issues other than a blower motor service at 4k miles (it has 17k now)

What things should I look for to ensure that this is good? (I have had experience with lemons in the past and REALLY want to make sure I do this right as this is the first vehicle that I am purchasing completely independently...) Thank you!

Get the VIN and check it on the tacoma owners site for what service, warranty issues, and TSB's have been done to it. Site should be on the www.toyota.com home page.

 

looks nice,, pretty much what he said tho ^^^^... i bought a 06 like a month ago, and everything feels like brnd new, with 90k miles.

This is an important Non-Compliance Recall. It covers certain 2008 through 2011 model year Land Cruiser, Tacoma, Sequoia and Tundra vehicles on which both TRD Accessory Wheels and Toyota-recommended Light Truck (LT) tires were installed prior to the delivery of the vehicle to the first purchaser. These accessory wheels and tires were installed as a Post Production Option (PPO) by Toyota Motor Sales USA (TMS) or as a Dealer Installed Option (DIO). Vehicles with these accessory wheels and tires do not meet the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) telltale illumination requirements specified in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 138 because the telltale will not start illuminating illuminate at the inflation pressure specified by the standard.

 

Hi Ryan welcome to tacomaworld and hope you are able to pick up the truck you want.

As far as the paragraph on the tpms, it sounds like Toyota is cya on some wheels pressure sensors not illuminating correctly if the system gets triggered. Or as they put it illuminating illuminate? In any case, the truck is still under the 3/36, any issues bring it to the dealer. My dealer was very helpful in solving the minor issues during my initial warranty. Yeah there are always cases read on here about dealer nightmares, but for the most part Toyota stands up.

I have a 2010 and got a recall letter for that. Mine has the factory steel 15 5 lug rim. i believe that they put that note on all tacomas it is nothing to worry about.
