Lost the little plug from the oil filter area....

Did oil change this morning, but lost that little rubber plug from the oil filter area....it shouldn't be a big deal huh?

 

No big deal, just buy a rubber cap for it from some auto parts store. Or u could not worry about it and just remember to put a hose on there before you take off the filter. It's just there so when u take the filter off, the oil has a place to drain rather than sit in the cup thing.

 

I haven't had my rubber cap since almost when I bought the truck. No big deal at all.

 

I misplaced my cap on the first oil change.

 

just jam a slurpee cup under there when u screw off the filter

 

yep i just cut the top off a gatorade bottle and then use that to catch the oil..

 

I ran a permanent tube from the filter drain down to the skid plate. When I change the oil I move the bucket over and drain the excess from the filter.

Version 2.0 of this project for me will involve running a longer tube back to somewhere near the drain plug, that way I don't have to move the oil pan when I unscrew the filter. Yes...I'm that lazy.

Like mentioned just permantly install a 5/16" hose with a hose clamp. I ran mine down about 2" through a hole in the skid plate. Once it stops draining I plug the end...never had one drop on the driveway!

 

It doesn't rattle or get in the way of anything? A permanent hose?

I'm thinking of doing the same. Might just ziptie it to some spots so its secure.

 

NOOOOO.... do not drive the truck without the rubber nipple. You can ruin it. Since you lost it, you’ve dropped the value of your truck by about half.

 

Does residual oil in the tube leak onto your driveway?

 

Seems like a lot of trouble for nothing. Just put a empty 0.5L water bottle under there, it fits perfectly between the nipple and the belt below it. Once finished just screw on the bottle cap and toss. You don’t have to get under the truck or have to mess with a bucket of oil.

 

An empty oil bottle works great too
