Could adding lets say a double trow switch with an additional front camera wired to switch work with this mod? Basically, I would switch up for front camera on all the time, mid position for normal off reverse mode, and bottom position for on reverse cam all the time. Has anyone done this?

I was planning a bed camera to get a wider view. No reason it won't work, but the monitor will not stay on past 5 minutes, so both of your always on positions are going to be limited.

The 5 min thing would not be an issue, as I want to mount a secondary camera to the front of my truck, with the Avid Bar, lift and hood scoop, its kind of difficult at times to determine how close can I get. If it works it be great!!! if you follow through with the idea let us know JAGE. Thx

I've thought about trying to set up a front camera as well. If you try it, be sure to post your results.

Hey there, bought this switch to be able to manually turn on or off my reverse camera. I still want the camera to function as it did with the factory function of turning on and off when the truck is in reverse. So this switch fits in one of the accessory knock outs and looks great. The words reverse camera lights up with the dash lights, push the button and the camera icon lights up as well. I'm guessing the switch (blue/yellow)should deliver 12v when turned on.
    Wires are ;
    Green/yellow -12v ign.,
    Blue/yellow - to camera power.,
    Red/yellow -12v (dash light)
    Black - ground

Can you guys help me figure out a wiring diagram for this application ?

Also I'm the second owner of this truck. There used to be an alarm installed and all the wire work was done in the same area ( behind the change holder below the accessory panel. Some of the wires in there have T- connectors on them. Theses are accessable if they need to be used for this application.

Wiring diagram given with switch. But , diagram was intended to be used for accessory lights instead of a camera.

You'd need a single pole double throw (SPDT) switch to do the mod as detailed in this thread. What you have is a single pole single throw (SPST) with an internal lamp.
What it can do (and probably was intended to do) is turn on/off an add-on camera (or anything else), itself being the only source of power.

A SPDT switch allows your to flip it one way to power the camera when YOU want to, and the other way to let the truck power the camera when you shift to reverse.

This wiki article on switch types might help clear it up

You could use it, but you would only be able to turn on your camera when you pushed the switch. It would no longer come on when going to reverse.

You can use the switch you have, but you will need the relay. I have a similar switch using the relay. It is a nice switch, that is why I used one very similar. Plus it looks a lot better than just a silver toggle switch.

It will work if the relay has 87 and 87a. If you look back through the posts, it is already explained.

I would personally T-tap the power to the camera from the switch.

    1. figure out which switch pin applying 12v to makes the switch light go on
    2. constant power to other (not negative) switch pin
    3. t-tap the #1 into the camera power.

I would test all this incrementally before hooking up and if I burned out my camera, monitor or something else doing this I'd eat it because I hate the frigging monitor timeout anyway, so don't do this unless you're me. It probably won't blow anything, but it's not my truck so it's easy to say that.

Check this link, if it works?? Some say links don't work here. If it doesn't then I found it on eBay item #251569786096.
It's $28. But if you are concerned with a consistent look in your cabin then it's worth it. Plus if I can get it to work the way I want , that would be great!! I'm going to attempt this weekend.

I like that switch. I guess that will work nicely for me. I'm just looking to add a switch to manually turn the camera on/off when I need it(which is hardly ever). Searched, but haven't found an existing D-I-Y mod for this...
