Beeping trying to put into 4-lo and doesn't stop until put to 4 hi

Hey ya'll was curious if this was a common thing or if i'm just misusing my 4x4

At a stop, when I attempt to put into 4 lo there is a beeping and the 4 wheel symbol slowly flashes... am I attempting to but it into 4x improperly or is there something wrong.

the beeping/flashing continues until i put it in either 4hi or 2wd...

The beeping means you did something wrong. Please read your owner's manual and/or the card in the visor. Good luck.

Tip: Be in 4wd high first before trying for low.

Make sure you are off road and drive around a bit. It will lock in.

Yeah I was just doing the 4x4 lubricating as per the owners manual... I was on street driving around the neighborhood. So not sure why it wouldn't go it...

also if your manual, you need to be pressing brake and engage the clutch all the way, not sure if you need to do the clutch but it do and never have any problems. i have a 2.7 manual 5 speed.

Ok you didn't really read the manual.

Be in 4wd high first. Stop(or under 3mph but stopping is easier), push the clutch to the floor, push the brake and select low range. Wait until the light is solid and enjoy. No you do not need to be in neutral.

Yea read your visor instructions. Also shouldn't be on if not in conditions that cause slippage on tires, could be potentially harmful

As long as you go straight on dry pavement there will be no issues.

I just saw that the OP has a manual transmission. For automatics, shifting into neutral before switching the dial to L4 is standard procedure.

Yes I know. I own one. But since the OP has a manual I didn't bother with details about the auto.

No prob. Again you can do that 10 miles on the street but try not to turn. Of course it is best if you just go wheeling.

The Transfer case is where the front and rear drive shafts are 'locked together'... the differentials are open. The two drive shafts rotate at different speeds so when you turn on dry pavement, there is binding as the tires won't be able to slip... since the front tires rotate more than the back when turning.
