4WD Double Cab V-6 Automatics Gas Mileage

Beacuse there is just so many variables on truck models (reg cab, access cab, double cab) and engines (I-4, V-6) and transmissions (manual, automatic) and traction (2WD, 4WD)... Here is a poll to see what one group of Tacomas gets in gas mileage... So only vote if you have a 2005 + Double Cab, 4WD, V-6, Automatic... apples to apples, so to speak! Daily driving average, like is calulated on Fuelly.com, not that one trip where you got amazing mileage. Be honest. I once got over 19 mpg... but my average is 16+ mpg. Lately I have been getting 14-15. I just had new plugs instaled, so we shall see if that gets better.

I am in the 16 range when you adjust for the speedo being slightly slower due to running 285 70 17 Duratracs and an RCD Lift.

I just hit my best tank ironically at 21.2 but that was with more hwy driving on this tank. But overall I've averaged 19.2-19.4.

Yah, the tire/ speedo relationship is resposible for at least 1 mpg change... The stock tires on my truck was 265/70-16, and the speedometer read too fast (giving better mileage per gallon!).

When I put on the 1" taller 265/75-16 Dynapros, my speedometer read balls-on accurate (per my GPS)... However, I also lost about 1 mpg on most of my checks following the new tire purchase... BUT, that is the TRUE mileage, not the phoney Toyota extra mileage... right?

 

How do we know this for sure? I do know that with my last truck my drive to work was exactly 11 miles. Now I haven't remembered to check with the Taco, but the other day I did notice while watching my odometer since I was anticipating my best mpg yet, noticed that before I left for work my odometer was at 291 point something so thought I would reach 300 by the time I got to work. 291+11=302. Got to work and read 299.9. I had been watching since I rarely hit 300 miles before 1/4 tank and was going to make fairly easy this time. Point is I didn't drive the 11 miles I'm used to. I'll have to remember to check it with the Taco soon.

I have seen for sure about the speed being off myself and wondered if the odometer would be correct. I've used my gps and drove by them electronic speed signs and both consistently give me 2 mph less (pending how fast I'm going I guess) then actual speed.

 

That's fair... but the A-TRAC button has NO affect on anything unless you are in L4.

Good Idea, never thought of using my GPS to go to work. Thing is kinda old and slower than hell to boot up and find the destination. But will have to try that some time.

 

37,568 miles tracked on fuelly over the past year - 19.9 mpg.

Right now I'm getting 21-22 mpg but that'll drop in the winter to 17-18. I do the same 600 mile round trip each week so it's easy to compare slight changes in driving style and how they affect mpg.

Two biggest differences - keep it below 70 on the highway and keep the ac compressor out of the picture, so no AC and no defrost (got to do the compressor off mod for defrost mode soon). Just leaving defrost on will knock off 1 - 1.5 mpg.

 

welp, I meet the requirements from the OP.

daily driving, 16-17 mpg, 90 highway. But I also have 33 BFG A/Ts, complete OME set up, and ATO rear bumper.

I took the rear tire swing out off, and on the 2nd tank with it off I managed 17.5 mpg. I really couldn't say if the spare on the swing out affected highway mpg though. But the swing out itself weighs roughly 40 lbs.

In most months I average 19.6-20.7, with winter-blended fuel and winter driving it generally hits around the 17-18 mark. All this is basically a showroom stock '10 OR model with the exception of an AFE Pro Dry air filter, which I will say accounted for about a .3-.5 mpg increase with installation.

I've been right around 20 for a while now. Some off road/city mostly highway. I also stay around 60 or 65 dependent upon traffic. Just put 265/75/16's on so we'll see if that effects the mileage. Also just did a tune up also. I'll wait and see if that helps at all. Hopefully it goes up.

On a side note, I'm doing the rear diff breather mod today. Think I'll ask the parts guy at the dealership why I had NGK R's in the driver's side cylinder bank and Denso's on the passenger side when I pick up what I need. Just thinking out loud, no intention to hijack OP's thread.
