Windshield Replacement

I'm cruising about 70mph and rock comes off a dump truck and dances across my windshield. It leaves 4 or 5 nice dings, the worst right in front of the driver. So I call the dealership and they recommend Guardian Glass. Guardian quotes me ~$250 for a new windshield. This seems crazy low to me, are windshields really that cheap?

 

I just got a piece of Guardian glass installed at the local place here in KS for $180 out the door.

 

Thanks for the info. I was expecting at least a $1000 bill. Were you satisfied with the work? I think I'm most concerned about the rearview mirror installation with that backup camera.

 

I'm happy with it...good glass, not wavy at all. The mount for the rear view mirror came pre-installed on the new windshield, just un-clips from the old and slides on to the new.

$225 doesn't sound that out of the ordinary. I had the windshield replaced on my old car a few years back for $95 installed. Everyone else wanted about $200.

BTW, did you get the info from the dump truck? I'm not sure how it is in your state, but here in FL if a driver runs over something and kicks it up, they are responsible for any damages. You should contact the dump truck company and make them pay it. Usually time, location, and a tag number is sufficient proof.

 

200bucks is norm i think for most aftermarket windshields, wouldnt it basically be your word against theirs? first time i heard it, maybe if the company is nice, but usually i thought it's considered a 'road hazard' i guess if you can prove without reasonable doubt, but then it would go on in court etc, is it really worth it?

I was just getting on the off-ramp when it happened and the truck was on the freeway. I lost him after that.

 

i do auto glass. and do the 05 and up tacos for 180 otd. if it was my truck i would use pgw glass! and it is still about 90% tech if he is good it will be good work

 

I'll call and ask if it's PPG glass. I kinda doubt it is, I get the impression that Guardian makes OEM windshields. So it's probably one of theirs.

 

FYI Guardian did a great job installing the windshield. They claim that they make the Tacoma windshield for Toyota. Visually I couldn't tell a difference between the two.

 

I used safelite on my nissan...they drove an hour to my house when i lived in the desert and i've had it for almost 2 years and no issues...i want to say it was $200 in my driveway with the hr drive there and the hr drive back...the didnt leave any mess of the broken glass and left everything clean...

check with your insurance company...here in SC I believe they have to cover windshield replacements

 

I actually just got 4 quotes yesterday after a rock cracked my windshield on the interstate monday.

Lowest was 221 including tax and highest was 272+ tax
