But hey, lets not limit it to trailers, either. Do you prefer canopies, drop-ins, fold-the-seat-down-and-sleep-on-the-wheel?

Personally, I was looking at Jayco the other night and found a fairly light (gross is a hair under 3,000lbs) travel trailer that would work well for us and our diabetic cat. I know there are some pop-up trailers that would be even easier to tow with our I4 5-speed, but I like the idea of just pulling over and climbing into the back without "cranking it up, pulling out the beds, now a cable broke, and it's too cold for the canvas to stretch" etc. etc.

How does everyone else prefer to roadtrip or camp? Pictures/links are a must! :D

If just a road trip (1-2 days), I usually hotel it.

I am saving over the winter for an ARB Simpson III. This will be use more for long weekend and 2 week trips, which when using a hotel get extremely expensive.

Edit, I went back and looked and you mentioned you wanted a camper, disregard :)

    No way!! That's awesome!

Our roadtrips usually last about a week because we drive to see our families who are approx 2,500-miles away (that may or may not have been on purpose) :D

Our most recent roadtrip was going to be 3-weeks long because we were scheduled to hit Utah, Oregon, Cali, Texas but then we found out boarding our diabetic cat just doubled in price, so bringing her comfortably along looked to be our only option. But I could see a little $7-10,000 trailer paying for it's self fairly quickly as we usually blow through hotel money, or literally fold the seats down and curl up for a few hours. On that subject though, I should be asking "what type of heat do you pack?" :p

Hey, no prob! That's what I'm looking for, but I'm also interested to see what everyone else is doing. Perhaps I'll find a method that better suits our situation by listening to everyone else too :)

After all, I don't know if the I4 should really be towing much of anything anyways. The 2nd generation I4 is rated for 6,500lbs, but most people I've talked to so far have said "oh, hell no, I wouldn't tow a feather in something that little."

The last time we towed anything was with a V6 Explorer and a 600lbs trailer and BLEW the transmission. So, yeah, I'm approaching the subject with ears wide open.

I love to camp and roadtrip. Lately We've been camping, mostly b/c we just bought our Toy Hauler. I have a 16' Toy Hauler, b/c I like to take my bike with me. Main reason is, the places where I go to camp have some awesome roads to ride on and b/c I can take it. I don't have my Taco anymore, b/c I needed something with more pulling power for the hills. But when I did have it, I towed with it and it did good, not excellent, but ok. See the pic of my previous setup, no new pictures of the new setup yet.

I used to take two 10 day road trips a year minimum, Dont think I would consider towing a camper, just wouldnt really work for me.

I have an All-Terrain Campers Bobcat. It is great. I really like it because it is a simple, high quality item. I also like to camp on BLM land and in other out-of-the-way places. Because it is on the truck, it does not limit where you can go, the truck is almost as agile as it would be without it, besides departure angle.
I have got a queeze size bed, a fold down couch, a fridge, sink, lighting, storage, an awning, and heat.

I know you didn't want to have the pop-up issues, but this is so easy, fast and simple, basically nothing that can break.

Sorry the photo is not the best.

This camper even went down the Lippencott Road in Death Valley National Park, pretty cool.

I have a stock (with the exception of Firestone Ride Rites) SR5 4x4, 4 door, auto, V6, short box and it handeled the camper very well. A 4 cylinder would probably struggle in the mountains, but you would be fine and who wants to rush on a raod trip in the mountains?

$10,000 out-the-door on a 2012 model. Since we JUST bought the truck, we'd need to wait a year or two before swallowing that price. I think it's a new, ultra-light model because I couldn't find any used ones yet.

I'm asking if it's still available now. If it is, roadtrip to Texas! There's another in Austin, but this one looks much cleaner so far

I've always wanted a teardrop camper, I may consider getting one because I am still trying to figure out how to haul the roof top tent and a kayak.

I have some plans to build one and they can be built in a garage. Basically, camping but no sleeping with the bugs.

I have a friend who can water jet the sides and top wrap panels. Weld up an aluminum frame trailer. I feel your pain, its a hard and nearly impossible decision and I don't want to have to pay twice if I decide wrong.

P.S. You can build one for less than $2k, dont let the linked prices scare you.

I just about spit out my coffee when I saw those prices!

If you do end up building one, please make a build thread!
