    Curly please. With extra foot.

Huh. It tells me different in my 07 manual. Wonder if there is a difference between the Canadian and US models?

I have an 07 Sport. I wish it had a locker so I could tell my friends it has a locker. But, I care way too much for my truck to ever put it somewhere I will need a locker. For hard core 4x4 a locker is definately more dependable and stronger. You bind an LSD up in a way that it takes 3/4 of the peddle to pull free and you will very likely smoke a LSD clutch pack. On the otherhand, a light offroader such as myself that looks forward to snow so I will have a reason to flip the switch, a LSD is better because it will last a lifetime without having to worry about a bad solinoid, switch, broken wire, etc. As far as the later models using brakes to act like a LSD, not sure I can be a real fan of that. Lots of crap to go wrong here.

Problem with 09 and older with mechanical LSD is if you go ARB, you lose the LSD Entirely, as the ARB Is a Open DIFF until locked.

09 + Are not affected and still have full use of TRAC while using an ARB Locker. Also full benefit of Open Diff, without the mechanical LSD kicking in when it shouldn't.

Seems to have the "shopping cart magnet" modification installed.
Has anyone driven both? I'm wondering if one has a smoother and/or quieter ride on the highway compared to the other. I'll be buying another Tacoma soon and 80% of the time it'll be on highway going to/from work.

only thing the sports had going for them were the standard 4 leaf packs in the rear... as of october 2013 all 6 lug taco's come built with a 4 leaf pack.

The only other thing is the slightly larger diameter (read stiffer) front swaybar on the sport compared to the off road.

Other than that.... after having my DCSB trd off road 4x4 for less than half a year the rear locker has come in handy multiple times to make navigating over obstacles a breeze where even in 4 low with a track it was a hassle.... soon as i locked the rear boom no wheel slip.

I just took my Sport on some very lose shale across steep hills and it was not an issue at all. I was beginning to doubt my purchase, but not now. In 2WD the Taco would not get close to 1/4 the way up and pushed the traction control into hyper drive, in 4H it was a breeze, and 4LO it was even easier all with no wheel spin. Yes a locker would be nice in some extreme crawling, or deep mud pushing, but guessing that would only apply to small group of Taco owners. I am so happy that I didn't get the Off Road. Like salesman said, he has never know anyone that needed a locker to date.

After driving both, the sport is as highway smooth as my first gen Tundra was. I have never driven a truck that handles the corners anywhere near as good as my sport.

I went with the off-road, just not a fan of turn-signal mirrors & fake hood scoops on a Tacoma. Either way, I don't think you can go wrong with any TRD Tacoma....

Ok call me dumb. I got a 05 TRD sport. never had a problem with it in 4-wheel. last year while hunting got stuck on a hill of slick mud. Never got stuck before. I pulled a guy out that was stuck had mud in the wheel wells but the front pass. side. was that because of slip or do i have a problem with my 4 wheel Drive? I do about 80% on road and 20 off. Most in the woods on the farms not to bad. never be mudding in it and don't want to. Just don't want to get stuck at 6 am in the woods...lol

Nothing yet. Old truck had the works.
All i know is my trd offroad stock with just nitto terras can go up stuff my friends with lifts and mud tires get stuck on simply because a wheel comes off the ground. I personally do like the looks of the sport. If you can drop at least 3 grand more on top of the sport price id say go for the sport and immediately put front and rear lockers in. But if you dont wanna do that the offroad performs epicly. Better than i could have expected. I dont care what anyone says regarding the sport versus offroads stock performance. The same driver will be able to make it more places with the offroad than the sport simply because it is more capable offroad. Thats what its made for. But the sport does look better. I dont like the chrome. And dont care for the fakie scoop. But colormatching is nice. Throw lockers in the sport then your good. But sport without lockers your stuck if your wheel pops up. The offroad wont do that.

I got the OR simply because I was looking for used and the local dealer had a 2014 with ~110 miles on it someone had purchased and returned (they have a 5 day return policy). They had already sent in the title paperwork so they couldn't sell it new anymore. I got it certified used basically brand new for 30k. I do agree on the fake scoop but also prefer the color-matched grille. Would've been a toss-up for me had they had both at the same price.

I have been reading a lot of theads with useful information, thank you. I am ready to becomae a tacoma owner but torn between two trucks. Both clean carfax trucks, one is an 09 TRD Off Road with 77,000 miles. The other is a 2011 TRD Sport with 45,000 miles. The 2011 is $2000 more. I won't be doing much in off road. Should I spend the extra $2000 for the newer truck? thanks

I had a 2010 OR and used the locker exactly zero times. Got the Sport this time around.
