Question Transmission Fluid??????????

Sorry guys not time to research old post......

05 v6 4.0 auto Prerunner. I tow 4500# 10,000 miles year max every year. I have a oil cooler and trany cooler.

Toyota said I they don't replace the transmision filters, they just wash them with mineral spirts and reuse...

They also did not recomm any thing but regular tran fluid........

1. Do I resuse the filter? what kind if needed(toy or after market)
2. What kind of synthic trans fluild can I use and pick up tomorrow!(?)

ill keep it short...have dealer do it.

if you dont believe me, then...

fluid - world standard
filter - rinse it
closed transmission - make sure you have the fluid at the proper temp when filling. you'd have to search around for how to tell, i know its on toyotanation.

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

Your dealer is High! Your Tranny takes a special WS fluid. Only use it. Its available at the dealer. Also, when checking fluid, the tranny has to be at opperating temp.

Isn't the automatic tranny not supposed to be serviced until 100k miles?

unless you get a dealerships that tells you you need it done before you realize that you could go 100k before its needed. Funny enough they changed mine at 45k. I was mad after the fact because it was money i didnt have to spend.

How much do they charge for the service? I'm approaching 100k, in a couple of weeks.

Dang is this your first tranny change?

I am still packing for my trip. I like the replies so far, makes since since I am short time. The only problem now is get them to do it short notice. may have to wait till 45k miles and do it in DE.

Yep, 1st change. Dealer told me I didn't have to do it till 100k miles. I asked back when I 1st got my truck in 05. When I was looking for the dipstick. That is when I learned it was a sealed trans.

Filter

I am baffled at the "Wash Filter" part. I can't help but trust the dealer and you guys but dang............

They sell a after market filter that connnects to the trany line and is like a oil filter.

Everyone can't be wrong.....Just like the Election:-...........

Thanks guys for the short notice.

Damn phantom,

Thanks for the awesome PDF. The last time I did the tranny change was years ago and forgot what fluid I used (I remember it's WS now). I think I did the same thing you did. Accidently drained the tranny fluid when doing my first oil change. I guess I got too eager on getting started and didn't realize until the fluid look more like tranny fluid than oil. 8) Now I'm nearing the 100k point and need to do it again. Your PDF will help a lot.. thank you!!

kafene.
