I took my 2011 dbl cab 4x4 of the lot friday around 6pm with 8mi. by early am today I punched out for the weekend with 848 miles.

Is this to much? not that I have a choice in the matter but was curious if this is concidered extremely excessive? I drive all weekend almost exactly 50% highway and 50% stop and go every half mile.(stopping about 220 times)

was curious if any new owners were pushing these numbers and if they noticed anything to look out for

should I consider a sooner maintaince sched then the reccomended 5000 miles?

any real mechanical changes help with mpgs? Sunday a gentle man a custom car shop told me an air intake and exhaust would have a noticeable effect? been finding mixed reviews on this one.

How many post till I have a search option? I been searching through google but theres been allota poop to sort through.

    Thanks guys, sorry if repetitive.

    oil change...
intake and exhaust wont make any difference at all. just give you a lighter pocket...

I would say get a scangauge and monitor you instant mpg with that so that you are able to max your mpgs and learn when to coast, what speed/rpm's to cruise at to get the best mileage. Keep your tires inflated properly. I'd stick to the normal 5k oil changes but also think about switching to synthetic and also changes out the diferential fluid to synthetic.

Just curious but why would you get a truck if you are driving this much?

    Welcome to TW from Orlando!

As long as you varied your speeds and didn't coast at a steady speed for extended amounts of time, you are actually better off than most. I've always been told it's best to break-in the engine as quickly as you can, and to use a good mix of highway/city.

Sounds like you will be just fine.

I always recommend doing your first oil change around 1,000mi. After seeing some UOA's, it goes to show that a lot of gunk is indeed still in the engines after they come off the line at the factory.

After that, 5,000mi OCI's should be fine. You might look into running full synthetic for a little bit better mileage and a longer OCI.

As far as an air intake and exhaust goes, just as Zombie said, it won't matter. Depending on the exhaust, it may actually annoy the hell out of you given that you drive on the highway so much.

Just stay on top of your preventative maintenance and you will be fine. Don't forget to operate the truck in 4x4 for at least 10mi/mo - you will need to do this off pavement, though.

    Good luck!

    Fink

I did 5400 miles in mine in June, Las Vegas to Memphis, Memphis to Ft. Lauderdale, and back the reverse direction. Taco did great. Heavy rains in Florida on the return trip, lots of construction on I-40. Had the oil changed before and after the trip. Truck had about 3300 miles on it before the trip.

I took mine to north carolina with 1100 miles on it on a friday, got home sunday with 2900. No issues, don't plan to do that every weekend though. Lol Hwy driving isn't to bad on cars, its short term city driving that kills them. Sounds like yours is getting plenty of time to get to operating temp so I wouldn't worry about a thing.

Thanks for the help guys, this is going to be a weekly routine give or take a few 100 miles.

Zombie; for a lot of reasons really, i needed something bigger with 4 wheel drive to transport my daughter and to still be mobile in the snow. I place weekend open house signs for new homes and rental communties for a living, so needed the bed space to transport approx 300 signs. (last truck was 2 door 4cyl 2wd manual ford ranger 97 with 150,000 mi, Im 6'3 230 and my daughter is still in an infant seat)

Instead of buying a second truck on a mediocre budget and having 2 possible headaches. I opted to go with 1 new vehicle. It is my family/work truck.

    neglect, mostly.
i agree with the others. if you're driving responsible and do your preventative maintenance you should be just as fine as any other driver, possibly better if you really go by the book on maintenance. . at my work we have salesman car that is an 05 camry. we just service it properly and it has i think 300,000 miles on it right now and never ran better.

I drove from new mexico to central florida in 30 hours ( about 1900 miles ) and had no issues. Just keep up with your oil changes and clean air filters until you need to change more major fluids/parts

It shouldnt be a problem, i drive 80 miles to work every monday thru thursday and about 150 miles every friday one way and have yet to have any problems. As long as you take care of the scheduled maintenance everything will be fine.

As long as you stay on top of your preventative maintenance items, you will be fine.

If you want peace of mind, full synthetic fluids would be a good idea. This may also allow you to extend your OCI's. If you want to get really fancy, send a sample off to Blackstone Laboratories and have them tell you how much longer they think you can go.

I doubt they will give you a hard time, but I have to assume they will make you pay for the difference.

Does it really matter? You need a vehicle to do your job and it's going to get used, it's not like you can carry stuff around on a back of a mule. If you're doing regular maintenance and still kill it, then buy go another one.

For most of us I think it does matter. If I knew there was something I could be doing to help my truck last longer or run better for minimal expense/hassle, you're damn right I'll do it. Full synthetic fluids, used oil analysis, etc...

As much as I'd love to have the "it's just a truck, I'll buy another one if it dies" attitude...I just don't have the cashflow to justify that.
