DC Storage Solution

So I've been looking for a solution to my everyday storage dilemma. I had already removed my smaller side of my rear bench seat (behind the driver) to fit my subwoofer, give myself immediate access to my under seat storage, and a flat surface to lay my field equipment. However, my stuff would just slide around and get lost in the back seat. I decided to build small storage/organizer boxes to remedy the problem.

I used some spare 3/4" MDF i had laying around. First step was basically measuring from the back of my seat to underseat storage and using the floormat as a shape stencil.



Then I just added vertical sides to the base piece.



After getting the lower section how I wanted it, I added the base of my second layer. With this piece, I had to cut out a section so the subwoofer would not strike the MDF and add wood to the bottom of the base to ensure the container was level.



Then I just added vertical walls to this base and rattle canned black. The storage fits very snug between the sub enclosure and back of the seat. Here is the final pictures. I just threw some stuff in the container for effect.

Maybe the title should be "MY" storage solution.

 

Yeah don't see what the sense is in buying a double cab and then do that. Put a low profile toolbox in the back

Lose the sub and fold the seat down. Problem solved, plenty of storage and a flat working surface

 

I did the same thing, sort of. Took out the back seat on the Access cab, and built a shelf. Pile on some blankets and whatever, and the dogs ride comfortably.

 

Hahaha, you needed a storage solution for some bullets, orange tape and campbells chunky??

This seems like a lot of work to ruin your person trasporting abilities. Plus that doesnt look like enough storage to put more than what would fit on your seat anyways.

I didnt get a double cab to haul people around. Im on the road all the time so the backseat is used for luggage and weather sensitive work equipment.

I said it was for effect. It's usually full of equipment and lunch (beanie weanies BTW) Roll flagging, pin flagging, diameter tape, tape refills, handheld gps, DME, spare batteries, 2x increment bore, extra ammo, Data recorded, cruising vest, snake chaps, spare pens and markers, clinometer, compass, camelback.

one stop shop so i can open up the back door and have all of my equipment ready to go

How come you elected to remove the rear seats vs. folding them flat? That way you'd have a very large, flat working surface and you could have built a removeable storage tray on that and still retained the seats.

 

because you get all that extra space in the foot well where the bottom part of the seat would be folded and I would have to worry about securing the storage to the folded seat back. I usually fold down the larger half of the split to put my luggage.

 

I hear ya there, I wish the bottom seat folded up and out of the way rather than the top folding down. I finally caved and bought a fiberglass shell.

 

My next Taco will be an access cab with a shell. I just have so much crap to haul around

 

I feel the same way! I took one of the seats out to make room for my fridge/freezer. People give me sh!t for it all the time and I just tell em to walk the rest of the way...

DCLB = no locker = worthless

 

Looks good but do you still have easy access to your underseat storage compartment? I'd hate to be in an accident with all that stuff flying around...but that's just me.

 

if you like it, thats all that matters, if it fits your needs, dont take anybodys crap
