i'd say try to work it out outside the insurance, go get an estimate of how much in damages then use the money for a mod on your truck:D(depending how bad damages are then maybe you want to just fix it)

and that was actually going to be my #2 question. What bumper mods or replacements (rear AND front) does everyone suggest so that we can minimize damage the next time around? I'm thinking this might be a warning to get our truck ready for the next bozo who decides to text while approaching a red light...

Get their insurance to pay. I got rear ended and the visable damage wasn't much...couple small dimples in the bumper (the hitch took the brunt of the force.) Ended up with a new bumper and new trailer hitch (all oem)...$1,200. For resale purposes get it fixed.

lots of plate bumpers but i like the high clearance ap rear bumper.

you can always go to the extreme and do this:

though you might kill the bozo that hits your taco.

I had a about that size a couple of months ago.

I didn't let it go. Your truck is still kinda brand new. Don't listen to people who say "it's just a truck". 90% of the time, they wouldn't be saying that if it had happened to them.

I got a brand new bumper, and my dent was smaller than yours.

I just read a quick blurb about how Relentless rear bumpers are "bullet-proof" (hello? yes, yes? Tell me more?), does anyone know who makes them? Tried Googling "Relentless bumper Tacoma" and only got blogs back.

Nevermind, I found him. Apparently, a fellow TWer!

This. It isn't about retribution of playing the system to benefit you. If you sold the car with that dent the buyer would want to be compensated. That money shouldn't come out of your pocket if it wasn't your fault.

Let them settle for an amount you are happy with or take it to insurance, but no reason to simply let it go. It isn't worth suing over, but taking basic steps to protect your "investment" is worthwhile.

it was the kids fault why should u have a messed up truck because of this kid i say make them fix it no matter how small. if they want to settle out of pocket great if not turn it in. you can learn to live with dents when it your own fault. let him live with the dent in his bank account lol

That's pretty minor dude....I got hit twice and let it go because it was like that. Then I got hit harder and actually suffered some damage; this time I claimed and got a nice chunk of change.

    neglect, mostly.
if that had happened to my truck while i wasn't around i probably would never notice haha. however, it's not my truck, it's yours. so i if i was in your shoes i wouldn't involve insurance in it, but id see if i could get $200 out of them and then get it knocked out. can't be more than that to fix it.

I recently took my $46,000 Tundra for the Toyota Free Oil Change, the mechanic dinged the door, I had it repainted (3) times, from two different paint shops and they couldnt get it right. So what did I do? Just sold the Truck!! Bought a new Tacoma. Get it fixed or it will bug the crap out of you.

    All the Best!

I have almost the same damage on my '09. I backed into a dumpster though, so my fault. If something looks like it is a foot away in the camera it is only a few inches away. I still notice it every time the sun hits the bumper. Kind of annoying.

I called the mother. Her son is 21 (whoa, baby face!), doesn't have a DL and isn't insured. The reason he rear-ended us was when he hit the brakes, his phone fell on to the floor, he reached down to get it, slipped off the brake, and when he came back up from underneath the dash, hello!, There we were. She was super cool though and asked me to phone her insurance (and to say that she was the one driving) and to keep in touch.

Here's to hoping this doesn't pile any bad karma against me. And if it does, I'll have one of these ready to go....http://www.kenmtnac.com/WiTaco05.html

Even though it appears minor, I'd have a body shop look at it. I was rear-ended last year. Hitch took the worst or it. Didn't look like there was a lot of damage. Turns out the frame was bent where the hitch bolts to it.
