I found a 2011 tacoma with 13000 miles. Nver owned one before, I am now noticing a sound under acceleration. The closest I can describe it as would be an exhaust leak, however its not exactly that sound, another description could be a clattering sound, maybe. Is this common in the tacoma? I put Royal Purple in it hoping to quiet the motor but no luck so far. Anyone have any insight?

It seems to me you are hearing the famous "ticking". There is a cure for it somewhere in the 2nd gen sticky list.

It is "normal" for it to sound like it's got a small exhaust leak. There is a
TSB out for the earlier trucks that I know applies to mine, not sure if it would apply to a brand new truck. TSB includes replaceing exhaust manifolds. I believe the new ones are thicker and quiet down the noise.

I could be wrong. I have never heard this exhaust leak sound.

I have to admit it's not that noticeable. I probably would not have singled this noise out if I hadn't spent so much time reading about the potential issues before I bought the truck.

It also depends on what you are used to driving. I had a 15 year old Dodge before this. It's amazing I noticed the Toyota making noises at all.

    back to bone stock.
the first several post in a forum page are listed as sticky. meaning they stay put in position and dont get kicked to the bottom of a page..they stay upfront for all to see and find.

the ticking is normal. there is a "fix" where you take a rubber washer and put it between a component..it works decent. i can only really hear the ticking when i am driving down an alley or next to k-rail.

There is no TSB for that on a 2011 and what your hearing sound to be the normal ticking to me. The fix involving the rubber washer is just spacing the VSV for the emissions system away from the plastic intake so you don't hear it resinating threw the plastic when it clicks on and off.
