As someone mentioned earlier, this text was pulled from the FSM (Factory Service Manual) for a Tundra apparently. Since I do all of my own service I have one for all three of my Toyota's. An FSM is a must have for anyone who owns a Toyota and plans on doing any of their own work. Even if you don't do your own work you will be more knowledgeable when you have to take it to the shop.

They cost about $125 and you can get them in hardcopy or online. I prefer the hardcopy because I'm old school and my laptop doesn't get dirty when I'm working. Don't waste your money on a Haynes or similar shop manual, suck it up and buy a manual from the people who built your vehicle.

Although FSM's are not cheap they will pay for themselves after you do one repair yourself.

Can anyone tell me how the knock sensor cycle works?

I've read that our trucks make more HP & torque on premium gas. So, let's say I fill up with 87 octane pee water, the knock sensors pick up some pinging, and retard the timing. What happens from there? How does the ECU know when to re-advance the timing?

When I fill up with 93, if no pinging is heard for a while, will it advance timing? How long does it take to do this?

    Here is the Dual VVT.
The Tacoma doesn’t have Dual VVT.
That’s what I’m having trouble finding.
