Its the best hope for the kids with ATRAC envy to not have to sit on the phone books anymore when they drive...

    Lockers > than A-Trac

It's simple logic...how can people not understand that?? But I guess it's fine for those who wheel the fire roads, moderate trails, and your local malls. But if you plan to step up to the big leagues and do some real wheeling you WILL need lockers unless you are a bad ass driver like Cole Trickle! :D

For full traction, smooth/ quiet operation lockers are better, yes.

For ease of use, no extra cost as it comes with the truck, and doesn't affect steering, A-TRAC wins.

You guys were there, but the video shows his passenger tire spinning... while I don't see the driver tire rotation, if A-TRAC was working, then the passenger tire would only spin the SAME as the driver's side... Was it? Was the driver's tire spinning on the rock too? If that's the case, then a locker would do the very SAME.

The spinning of both front tires could have been reduced by BETTER TIRES or LOWERING AIR PRESSURE (or both).

Again, if the A-TRAC was on (and working) the tire rotation across the axle is matched very closely, one tire cannot spin away while the other is still.

    completely stock
from everything ive seen of atrac, it does not fair well against a steep shelf. apparently with a super steep aggressive shelf the brakes arent strong enough to transfer the power to match wheel speed

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.

I second Yoytoda on that one I wheeled with the Norcal FJ's on the Slick Rock trail and one of the FJ's had a tire wedged up in a rock. The other in the air (Rear wheels) the tire in the are was spinning fast pulsing a little wile the other is stopped I asked if he was locked he said no I just use A-Track  I told him to turn that crap off and lock up the rear and guess what he crawled right over the rock. A-Track may help a little on fire roads and in Baja but on a extreme trail it's not too much help.

Did you see the 4Runner at Moab video? That is about as steep a cliff as an unlifted/ stock truck would need to climb, you think?

How about the Widowmaker on the road to/ from Mision Santa Maria? Here are some pics from 2010 and 2007 trips (rear locker in 2007 and A-TRAC only in 2010):

You have an unhealthy obsession with ATRAC. Every single thread I see you post in is almost something about it lol.

Let it go, a true locker is better for real wheelin. Sure, it's better than open-open... But it's not better than a true locked diff.

I am so sold on this whole A-TRAC thing that I am going to spend all weekend hacking it out of my Tacoma TRD OR and figuring out a way to get it working in my trail rig! Anybody want to buy 2 detroits? I don't even need those things anymore!

the above picture is at Calico..that's my friend Brandon in his Toyota F-Toy taking the trickier harder line from the bottom..the normal line on top is very narrow and scary with a nice drop if you fuck up:eek:..

here's the same spot but at a different angle:D

i just dropped my truggy off at yotamasters to do the detroit locker to atrac conversion .. yeah its alot of money but hey i gotta do what it takes to be able to crawl over those mall speedbumps

this thread and the morons that think the atrac is the best thing ever just shows how little you know about wheeling ... if you want to test it meet me at calico set a date and i will be there hell if you do as good as i do or better i will pay your gas bill to the trail .. any takers ? i am sure some of these other guys will come along too
