Trying to downsize from my Ram 1500 Quad Cab to a Tacoma.

Spent almost 3 hours at dealership last night(2 hours after closing), settled on a price with salesman or so I thought. Libertyville Toyota btw.

Literally had the keys in my pocket, they had my truck keys, my stuff was moved into new truck and I was signing papers in the finance office.

However, the $27,5k price we agreed upon for the 2011 TRD had now inflated to $33k, give or take. WTF? Walked out of there, loaded crap back into my truck and drove away.

Since found out about www.truecar.com and got a price guarantee on a 2011 Taco V6 4 door for $25,344. But, we'll see how it goes tomorrow. They have one last chance then I'm headed back to Carmax.

    So, is $25,344 a good/fair price for a 2011 Tacoma 4dr?

What kind is it? TRD, SR5, 4x4, V6, Short bed, long bed?

The prices on the double cab can really vary depending on the options. Edmonds.com will give you a good idea of fair value.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
I don't think the price off hand is too bad, but of course like already said, it depends on the options. Do you have your own financing or are you using their finance company?

A car deal shouldn't take more than an hour if you know how much you want to pay.

^^^ That. And that's not an hour of 'talking' or 'negotiating'. It's the paperwork that needs to be done. If you're thinking "this is taking way too long" you're probably right and are being played.

I think we need more info.

So was the actual cost of the truck 27K and then taxes title and processing along with possibly your ram factoring in being a negative??

I live close to you and can send you to a dealer where I can refer you.

    x2...

It's interesting to me how they gave him the keys and let him load his stuff in before even giving him the final 'walk away' cost. Reminds me of when my dad would car shop... way back 'in the day'... they'd even let you have the car for a night knowing how hard it can be going back to the old one.

Would be interesting to know why op's agreed price was so much lower than the final deal. Either he didn't understand the uppers (tax, title, license fees, etc.) or, like someone said, he was upside down on the trade. Good for him for walking away... salesmen should be up-front about those costs. But if he didn't know he was upside down the fail's on him, IMO.

Yeah, I'm thinking that price included tax/title/license, too. Great walking out since you didn't feel right about it, though!

    Oh well, oops!
It was the TRD short bed, too short for my preference.

I was getting $200 more than I owed on my truck for trade in or a whopping $4800, ouch.

Sent Manager a pointed email and we will see if he fixes things. We own a Highlander purchased from there so he has two customers to lose if this isn't rectified.

I'm going back to my original idea of the 4 door, Speedway Blue, V6, 4x4.

    Darn, I was sooooo close.

I bought mine used. I know when the company I work for buys trucks, my boss just calls several dealerships and tells them what he wants and asks for a price. He tells them to give him the best number they can and that they only get one chance.:D

The last three Tacomas have come from Elmore Toyota in Orange County, CA. The boss said he only spends twenty minutes in the dealership signing papers and he's done. The local dealer doesn't seem to understand the part about only getting one shot.

Go to another dealership. In fact, go to several dealerships and get a bidding war going. See who is willing to give you bottom dollar.

    Do some research.
    Know your trade-in value.
Know exactly what you're looking at and research from dealer to dealer for prices.
Tell them you're not paying any higher than INVOICE.
    INVOICE, INVOICE, INVOICE

Be firm and ready to WALK OUT. Be sure you're fully aware of what they're offering you.....before you sign any papers!!!

Try getting a price from overstock.com. It'll pre negotiate a price for you so there are less games. The 2012's are out so i wouldn't pay over invoice for a 2011.
