I like the 6 speed manual, can't imagine driving this truck with an auto trans really and is one of the main reasons I went with the taco, it was the only decent sized truck with a 6 speed V6 DC. Not sure what it is going to be like in the snow but will find out in a few weeks ! Could not find a manual nearby, ended up getting one form US and bringing into Canada, good luck with the new truck

What year trucks are you talking about? I know 2010 models were being sold new, here. But it's 2011 and 2012 double-cab manuals that I don't think have been sold.

You said you converted to auto, after your Tacoma. Was the manual THAT bad?

Ahhhhh! This is what I wanted to hear!

If they sold the 2011 like that they must be selling the 2012. Same engine, same tranny, same deal. The website would not show me a manual DC 4.0 in California for the 2011 model year either. Looks like I have to dig deep!

BTW, you drive it around here? I'm in San Diego. How are you liking the 6-Speed? Happy with the purchase or regretting not getting automatic?

I really enjoy my auto. It holds high gears when it can, and it can be shifted manually through the gates to select lower gears for towing or engine braking. It is also overbuilt considering they were originally mated to V8s

Like many others, I drove manuals before I bought this truck. I bought my 2010 TRD Off Road with an automatic and I cant complain. The truck shifts smooth and has no issues towing. I drove both the manual and the auto and it all comes down to preference really as they are both very capable.

I have an 07' TRD sport ac. cab with the 6spd. only 40k miles. I am a master mechanic willing to completely swap tranny's with anyone that has an auto! I will do all of the work and will complete your truck first to get you back on the road sooner. I will even purchase a new clutch kit for you of your choice. The 07' did not have the fork issues or maybe is it that just my truck doesn't have it! Not trying to thread jack but rather passively comment on post! It is all about preference!

The TSB for the manuals applies to what years? Is it an issue in the 2011?

I also suppose that for 2012 no TSB fix is necessary. I suppose Toyota would've taken care of the issue.

i vote auto..right now i have a 2010 6sp 4.0 and im looking to trade it in for an auto if i get a good deal. driving my truck around bothers me.. the noise and the clunking. i thought the 6sp would be better for doing "truck stuff" but the way they make auto trans nowadays its as good as the 6sp.

I switched from auto to 6speed, drove the auto for a year, very smooth and reliable, just got bored so went for 6sp.
Its been good to me, never had any issues on it yet, '06 with 49kms. Even with 33s, I wish they made 6th gear taller for the hwy. I do miss how easy and comfy the auto drives.

I don't like the 6 speed for 4 wheelin. If you try to idle over an obstacle in L4 the truck lugs out and dies. You have to be on the throttle to keep it from dying out and on some obstacles it takes us out of our comfort zone speed wise. On the street it works just fine and is fun to drive.

Really? I don't have that problem at all when wheeling. Unless the obstacle is really big in which case an automatic would require throttle input as well. I have found that in 4Low, I don't even need to give the truck any gas to get going, I can just let out the clutch and go. It seems to have enough low end torque to get moving on its own. Maybe you aren't feathering the clutch enough. Even driving on the street in 2wd, on level ground, I can slowly let out the clutch and get the truck moving without any throttle input. I do it all the time when sitting in traffic.

the 6- spd manual has it's problems however, the 5- spd manual paired with the 2.7L is rock solid and quite fun to drive. personally I will never own any automatic no matter how great they are, I enjoy being engaged in the driving experience.

I have the 08 SR5 4x4 dcsb in a 6 speed manual and absolutely love it! My Jeep was a 6 speed also and this one is by far much better! the clutch is hard and sometimes it squeaks but it is also very smooth and a great ride! Just took it to the mountains this weekend and it was exactly what I needed!!

Amen! I love my 5 speed in my 2.7 liter AC! Would not be much fun to drive it if it was auto, just be like driving my dad's Honda Accord, that is a fun car in all, but if it had the optional 6 speed it would be a total kick in the pants!

I'm talkin like a 1' or larger rock or a ledge. Have the same issue starting off on the same size obstacle. Can't just let the clutch out slow either. Really sucks. My old jeep and my '82 pickup the clutch is like an on and off switch. Just let it out and ur rolling. Also I could/can idle over 3' boulders no problem. To be fair the Jeep did have a 4to1 transfer case and but the pickup is stock. Maybe I'm just expecting to much, dunno.

I've had both. '05 TRD OR Access Cab manual and '10 TRD OR Double-Cab automatic........ Loved the 6-speed, but I think I like the auto a little more!

    What?
We just picked up a 6-speed at Longo on Friday.

There was one more; we were told there would be no 2012's b/c there was no market for them here.
