Good point. But if there was no electric power, gas stations couldn't pump gas making tires irrelevant. That's one reason I chose to already live where I'd want to go in an emergency. Heck, I was at a gas station when their computers were down and they couldn't sell gas to anyone. The only reason I could get gas was that I paid cash.

Solar is good for charging batteries. If there was a total power grid failure, for example from a solar flare or an EMP detonation. Solar panels would be fried right along with anything else electronic. Hello 1800's. Candles and wood stoves.

So I have a Tahoe it was gonna be built as a bug out vehicle someone stole the gas tank out of the truck...cant get far if you utilize your truck if someone steals the pump and tank...ive never even heard of something like this happening. I found a new tank/pump and lines im hoping the guy decides to part the truck if he does im gonna put a single spot welt on the bolts for the tank so no one can just unbolt it and run with it again...

Hey everyone. Been following this thread for awhile; lots of great info.

My brother was at our mom's house with his dog in her backyard when the next door neighbor's pitbull jumped the block wall and attacked his dog. He stopped it in time before it fucked his dog up, and he fucked the pitbull up, but it got me thinking about my lack of protection when I'm out riding my mt bike on trails or riding to work.

I have pistols and what not, but don't see any real way of carrying it without it popping out of the holster from being banged around on trails. I used to carry it in my bag but I would have to get off the bike, open the bag, and grab the gun before I could use it. Plus I ride by a few schools on the way to work and I'd rather not get in trouble for carrying a gun so close by.

So I had this old knife laying around and test attached it to the shoulder strap of the bag. It works, but it is a pretty big F'n knife and I feel it looks a bit ridiculous. I thought about using a smaller knife like the S&W one shown, but it isn't too secure when it's clipped onto the "anchor points," at least where it is easily accessible with one hand while riding.

This is more for protection against wild animals and what not that you encounter when riding around. I know it's better to look ridiculous and have it it than look fine and not have it when you need it.

Opinions? I guess I could just find a knife about 2/3s the size of this one but I'd rather use what I already have. What do you guys do when riding around?

I would be more than comfortable with the little tanto folder you have there. You might need the bayonet looking one if you were fighting a bear or something.

 

Oh yeah I forgot that I had one of those collapsible batons. Think it is called an asp or some shit. Ill look into the para cord wrapped handle. I have something like it already. Ill keep playing around with it, already took the big one off.

The little one is a nice knife but it just moves around a lot when clipped in.

I carry a kershaw folder clipped to my shorts pocket. You could also get a can of pepper spray and clip it to your backpack strap.

Any of you guys ever just hop in your truck with your bug-out bag only and put your kit to the test for a few days in the forest or desert?
I've done this in the desert a few times and have managed to narrow down my pack to what's on the list I posted.

Backpacking is one thing. I do that as well. But I don't carry a rifle and ammo when I do that(and I don't hunt), so my bug-out and backpacking kits, while similar, aren't 100% interchangeable given some of the extra equipment involved.
I have set up targets at a shooting spot, drove out, then hiked in, camped, ranged my targets, took some shots, packed up and hiked out.

It's alot of fun and adds a whole new dimension to hiking/backpacking

Regrettably, I can't claim the title of soldier, so I just call it hiking in and shooting But I've taken enough precision rifle classes and had enough trigger time to be OK at it.

I've packed my .300 WM in a couple of times, but that's a lot of gun for the distances I've been able to set up at. So, more often than not I'll just tote an 18" SPR since that's good for 700-800 yards. On the heavy side for an AR, but still pales in comparison to the heavy profile of the bolt gun.
This is what I typically carry when I do that.

 

Not gonna happen! It's more or less a one-of-a-kind build. And a consistent 3/4" grouper. I think I'd unload the .300WM before this one.

It's a pig. But a very accurate pig.

Nice rifle, I have a trusty scoped 30-06 I call Ma-Bell (Reach out and touch someone) along with too many other toys in the gun safe, but I honestly think my most useful rifle is my newest: 10-22 takedown. That's got to be the coolest small caliber rifle ever made. Shoots like a dream, made to last an eternity with black polymer/stainless steel everything, weighs nothing and packs down so small it's almost a pistol while still taking all the 1022 accessories/mags. Even comes with a shooting/BOB type bag that is just awesome..
