Did you have the timing chain issue addressed in the TSB? I'm just trying to understand how common of an issue it is.

It might help if you explain exactly what that is.....

Covers don't leak. It's something underneath..... So, what exactly is leaking?
(sorry, I'm not on here a lot so I'm not familiar with it - but do want to keep an eye out for it)

its right above the p/s pump on the 1gr taco engine. oil seeps through the gap and sealant, in between the t-cover and block. some leaks are worse than others.
seen a few. fixed a few. not that hard after a while. just tedious.

My gen 2 V6 started using oil at 30 k. only on the interstate at high speed a qt in 1000 miles. Had it fixed at 3600 k. but now at 45OO k. the leak is back only at high speeds. Watch it for now but not going to fix it. Do not know when but Ill trade her in like she is with a big smile and the best truck I've ever had coming out of my mouth...Jim

Had a leak and it was fixed no charge under power train warranty. My dealer was really great about fixing the problem. :)

the leak happens on the front of the engine by the oil dipstick right? I am at 58,500 right now and I checked last night and saw nothing. I just wanted to make sure I was checking the right spot.

84hilux's photo is looking down at the area that my photo is looking up at...

looking at the engine from the front, it's around the far left pulley (P/S Pump) down to the crank shaft

just look around p/s pump area. if its leaking, u'll know its leaking. if its been leaking for a while, then dirt n road stuffs will pile on like the prev pic. but i've never seen them piss out oil, just seep through over time.
tacoma 05+ 1GR= timing chain = timing chain cover.
    tacoma 95-04 5VZ =timing belt=no timing chain cover.

My 06 had this problem but it was covered under warranty. Would have been $1200 out of pocket...

My 2006 also had the leak, repaired under drivetrain warranty. They had it overnight to let the sealant set. No more leak.
