Searching for a trailer hitch

I have a 2011 Prerunner and I am getting ready to purchase a hitch for it. I will only be using it to mount a cargo basket or to pull a light uHaul trailer occasionally. I know nothing about hitches so I'd like some input. I've decided on a class III, but I don't know what brand is best or even if there is much difference between brands. Here are my choices at etrailer.com.

 

You could just take it to U-Haul and let them install one.

 

CURT Manufacturing makes awesome stuff.

I installed a Class III Hidden Hitch receiver on my 3rd gen 4Runner and it was a piece of cake.

I went with a class III from Curt as well on my prerunner. Very satisfied with it.

 

Yeah, I kinda figured that. I'll tap into the tail lights for the trailer when the time comes.

 

Just an FYI for anyone reading this thread (I know it doesnt help you OP, sorry) but the 2012 SR5's all seem to come with the tow package. Not sure if that is just a manufacturer trend always putting the packages together or if it's mandatory though. A dealer recently told me you couldnt get a new taco SR5 without the tow package.

Anyway. Just thought it was pertinent info for anyone finding this thread through a search.

Yes on what Fink Said. Curt is a good company to deal with, I bought mine from ETrailers.com or E Hitch.com. Curt is a stout hitch for the everyday man. Don't get a bolt together one size fits all hitch. The Curt is powder coated, and easy to do it yourself. I got my harness from autozone, no cutting wires, all plug and play. All I had to do is find a ground location and oddly enough there are plenty just below the tail gate or bumper to choose from just tap into metal with a 10 MM bold and some electrical grease for a good connection

 

Ok, gonna get me a Curt. Now I just gotta choose a good quality cargo carrier to go with it.
