ok, heres the deal. got estimate today and looks like almost 14k worth of damage and the frame is bent and will need to be replaced. looks like the frame alone is over 5k to 6k. will hear what the insurance wants to do, within the next couple days. i think im going to tell them to total it.

hard to tell with my cell phone pics (time for new phone), but does it look like the front frame part is the only part on the frame that is bent? didnt dawn on me to look under the truck until i left. the front left part of the frame that is bent cant just be removed and replaced with a new or wielded one, correct? and therefore the whole frame. im sure it could be straightened out but for resell value and carfax report, not even worth it and wont ever be the same.

learning more and more as i own my truck. my adjuster is firm the whole frame needs to be replaced. thanks for any other information.

    heres some new pics:

Shitty man.. :/ my 06 was totalled out with similar damage. They quoted me like 17k I think. Can't remember. Insurance cut me a check for 23k. Owed 13k, and used the rest for a down payment on my 09. Hope It all works out man.

daaaaamn, sorry if i havent seen your thread yet but hope you are ok as well. looks like a lot of damage. so i take it frame damage too? i hope for a good outcome, however i owe a lot more than you did at the time. it should all work out. did you have to haggle with them, or did they offer you the 23k right away. was the 17k or so, total wholesale they gave for the truck? if so, nice to see our tacomas have good resell values. i take it the additional was for dr. time from work, etc? thanks man.

Sorry to hear about your loss Rich! Don't have much experience with that, but I wish you the best! Just be careful as you may have physical issues that don't show up right away. Maybe request pain and suffering as well in case you need to see a chiropractor 6 months down the road or something. My wife has 2 posterior ribs that pop out randomly and it was most likely caused from an accident she had years ago! Wish you a positive outcome!

It's all good man.. this was about 6 months ago. I had It towed to a shop the next day, and got that quote for repairs. The insurance company decided to total it since it would cost more to repair then what I owed.. even tho they cut me a check for 23k. I wasnt gonna argue since I was starting to want a four door and another color. Lol. its just a pain in the ass way to get a new truck. The 23k was what the truck was worth so they definitely hold their value. The frame was bent, the IFS and front driveline were toast, radiator was toast, cab mount was crushed in from the tire, etc.

I'd say total it man. If they offer you enough for it, and it covers what you owe.. get another Taco. It probably won't drive the same. Rattle, etc. It's a way to start fresh. Lol. A Shitty way.. good luck with the whole process. It does suck.

Hey tacomarich, just skimmed through you're thread and read your posts and looked at the pictures. It's hard to say by looking at the pictures. But a new frame is pretty rare around here. However just this week a big dodge 2500 is finally leaving our shop after replacing the frame. His damage looked like less than yours. Swayed over a few inches but most of it came out while pulling on te frame machine. However it left one little buckle that we couldn't work out. Not without heat. Proper repair standards for this truck, and on most vehicle frames, says not to apply heat as this will ultimately weaken the structure. So we replaced it, frame was around 5 or 6 hours with about 35 hours shop labour I think.

But it's hard to say, I've seen some pretty gnarly hit pull out pretty decent. Hard to tell by the pictures, you easily have a sway, and it's so far over there will be buckles. But they wouldn't really know if they'll come out or not until they pull. Unless your rail has the tiniest tear in it. It looks like it was twisted as well. Haven't looked up procedures for our trucks but I would assume you're not supposed to weld the frames for structural integrity.

I guess if it's close to going either way and he's still adamant about replacing it you may be able to convince him to have the shop pull it on the frame machine first. Unless he can give you a solid reason on why it needs to be replaced other than it looks bent. Lol. Hopefully you have a nice adjuster, cause it ends up being what they say goes majority of the time. They can be nice and try to help you out. Or really pricks and aim to tl your vehicle.

Well now that I have rambled on some more and put my 2 cents in I don't think really contributes anything. But let me know if you have any other questions. If I remember I'll check the repair procedures for our trucks while I'm at work today. I'm petty forgetful though.

Glad to hear you're alright though. Hopefully everything checks out with the doctor.

Go see a Dr. first not the Chiro. Something is up if the lawyer reccomends a certain Chiro. The object is to make sure your okay. I wish you the best.
