I'm going to change over to full synthetic oil at my first oil change at about 15,000 miles (I bout it with almost 11,000 miles on it already). Looking at something like the Mobile 1 Extended performance. Does anybody actually run their truck with this for 15,000 miles between oil changes? And what exactly do they mean when they say that it is "guaranteed"? I want to keep my truck for at least 300,000 miles and want it to run trouble free for every last one of them.

If I use Mobile 1 Extended Performance and change the oil every 10,000 miles, do you think that would provide enough head room to keep the engine running well?

I do almost exclusively highway driving, 100 miles round trip, six or seven days a week. If I changed my oil every 5,000 miles, I would be changing it about every month and a half. If I can get 10,000 miles out of it, then I can change it about every three months. Other than the cost savings, I get annoyed at having to constantly take my vehicle in for maintenance and service too often.

X2 on U. Motor or valve tick gone or less. Stocked up at BJ's when it was on sale. Not much more then dino this way - probably the same or less when you consider a 5,000 mile OCI for syn VS 3,000 OCI for dino.

I switched to AMSOIL a few years ago, I use it exclusively in my race bike and I am practically deal in it. Recently money has been really tight so I switched back to RP in the Taco but still run AMSOIL in the bike. My local parts store ran a special on Castrol Edge so that's what's in the Taco now. I will never use Mobil 1 again. AMSOIL has independent studies done on all the leading synthetic oils and RP rates pretty well as does Castrol but Mobil 1 is almost bottom of the list. AMSOIL products are superior to others but it does come at a price even at dealer pricing. I ran the signature series 0W-30 for two years in the taco and picked up mpg's and it def ran smoother and pulled harder too. But I was paying nearly $12/quart for it.

I have a 2007 tacoma double cab pre runner and about 2200 miles ago i switched to ful syn at a jiffy lube and asked for mobil one even though im sure they put in penzoil platinum. is anyone having troubles with the switch over in their higher mileage tacos? because my "maintenance required" light is now flashing.

Im going to switch to Mobile1 synthetic when the shitty Toyota care is up; so when I hit 20k miles. I will probably change it out every 8k - 10k miles while checking how the oil looks in the dipstick every thousand after the first five. Well see.

That's just a "reminder". It comes on at preset mileage intervals. Just reset it. There'e a procedure in the owner's manual. All late model Toyota's have this feature.

    Well lets look at it...

Dino Oil $17 Jug (walmart pricing)
Mobil One Full Syn $ 27 Jug (walmart pricing)
    Toyota Filter $5
For me, I have always been a "3000-3500 mile oil change guy" so say in a 10,000 mile interval with Dino oil I will do 3 oil changes

    Oil $54, Filters $15, Total $69

Now, if I go to a 5000 mile oil change interval guideline with Full Syn oil every 10,000 miles I will only do 2 oil changes

    Oil $54, Filters $10, Total $64

I feel confident I am protecting my motor as good if not better with the Full Syn oil, and I am disposing of less oil which is better for the envrionment...:D

Not at all. The Mobil 1 (using Mobil 1 oil filter) looks cleaner in my truck after 5K miles than dealership dino oil but I've never noticed any oil consumption with either.

Switched to Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 oil filter at 15K. I noticed for me personally that the engine sounds a lot quieter from the time I pour in the oil until the time I drain it - my engine ticking went away and over the last 12K miles I have not noticed it return.

I plan on changing oil and filter every 5K miles until warranty period is over. Then I would consider some of the other options, such as leaving the oil for 10K but changing the filter every 5K. Like the other folks, I try and stock up when there's a deal. I used to have a SAAB and got turned off doing oil changes but it's so easy to change the oil on the Tacoma that I'm back in the game.

Oddly enough, when I switched I noticed in my Ultragauge that my MPG got slightly worse for a couple of tanks but then became slightly better than it used to be. I had some theory in my head about reduced friction, etc. but in the end I forgot about it since I wasn't really running a controlled test.

I would switch to synthetic if I were to do it all over again.
