4 cyl tacoma with 245/75/16 in a 10ply

so most of the tires I'm looking only seem to come as a 10 ply tire in teh 245 size (which I want for efficiency), and while I've been told to expect a magnificent decrease in using a 10ply 265 tire I was wondering what fellow 4 cyl taco drivers were getting as far as mpg's when running on a 10 ply AT tire?

 

the ultra gauge says I am getting just a bit over 20 mpg....but i am carrying around 300 pounds in tools on a daily basis plus the topper

I am running a 265/70/17

 

I have not noticed a difference in mpg. at all. Also the ride does not not seem any different. Just Don't put 80psi. in them and it rides great.

 

I'm running 285/75 8 ply and I get around 22mpg. But I have 4.56 gears and cold air intake and magnaflow exhaust.

 

I have 245/75/16 load range E (I think that is 10ply). When I first put them on there was a drop in fuel economy and much stiffer ride. Around town it is more of an issue than on the freeway.

I have 245 Load Range E(10 Ply rating) Michelin AT2's. They are stiffer, which i like, and heavier, the only downside. I have not noticed a decrease in the highway MPG and am always mixed so cant say about city MPG. For what I do the E rating gived me confidence that my tires are robust enough to do what I want without going to a very aggressive tire. I previously ran BFG AT/KO's because of the 3ply sidewall, but am happy to be in a less aggressive tire that can still take a beating.

I run about 40psi to maintian a good contact patch, so the ride is not too stiff. They say that you need more pressure in a 10 ply to keep the tire from overheating and that is another reason I run higher than the factory recomended pressure.

What tires are you looking at? I know that I could have gotten the Michelin in a 4 ply, if you want to keep the tire lighter.

 

I have c Load and I might have lost about 2 mpg (might be air filter needed change, testing now).

Snow and efficiency is the reason I want to keep with the 245's as well, and I'm looking at the General Grabber AT2's, which I was a big fan of on my 4runner
