Radiator and Cold air intake upgrades EVERYONE CHIP IN !!!!!

I have been looking for small mpg increases from different upgrades that allow for 1-2 increase. I am looking into the cold air intake system first, Im curious about the volant air intake along with the air dam intake that goes with it, does anyone have it or suggest anything that has better performance. Also after the cold air intake I am looking into a electric radiator fan that should also give me a 1-2 mpg increase because it take some stress off the motor. Any other mpg increase suggestions yall can give me would be good to im looking for anything possible.

 

Air temp. doesn't make a huge difference. The thing that will add mpg's is opening up the intake and allowing more air flow with less restriction. That is going to help with the mileage.

what do you mean by opening it up. Having just a box around the air filter with no top or what ?

 

All this is good info minus the spark plug thing. 2 prongs dont really make any difference, electricity takes shortest/easiest route possible.

 

haha yeh i thought about that after i posted it. pro should have chose better words. I have 3.73 gears with 33's which is the bracket for best gas mileage. Ill have to run the chalk test when it stops raining here, i think 4 wheel parts put 80 psi in the tires. ill have to swap to fully synthetic unless it comes stock in the truck i dont really know i only have 500 miles on my truck.

you might be doing pretty well already for a tacoma

 

i was getting 18 city but that was without a lift and tires which i just had installed on thursday so i dont know my current mileage yet but i was just wanting to get back to 18 cause im sure i dropped about 2-3

 

I just mean having anything that is less restrictive than the factory intake.

 

When you get an air intake with less resistance, you will increase your peak horsepower, but actually reduces your bottom end torque. The manufacturer, be it Toyota, Subaru, or Bugatti, develop the intake for certain characteristics for that particular motor.

I've heard safari snorkels give a significant increase in mpg. And by significant i mean 2 mpg.

 

The biggest gas saver is just drive like you are in no hurry to get there.

 

Keep the RPMs under 2k

 

might as well shit can the alternator while your in there hacking out the fan....run her like them drag racers do...then plug her in at night and tell people its a hybrid...that way you free up even more rotational resistance AND get the additional weight savings...pretty soon you wont have to gas up at all

+1, I've done both and saw no mpg increase with either,,, actually with both. Had the e-fan installed a couple of years ago, no mpg affect, added an aFe stage II SI last year, and no mpg affect with both. Scanguage has been my best mpg affector (yeah I know, not a real word), that, and not running AC. Other then that, my mpg's are all based on driving habits and city/highway mix.

 

In general electric fans release the constant drag off the engine as they are cycled on as temperature dictates.

BUT as 90% of the cars/trucks, ours included, come with a clutch fan that only engages when additional cooling is needed. Thus under most conditions the fan is just coasting with being directly coupled to the engine.

In the old days where the fan was always being driven this was a valid improvement, these days, few if any vehicles will benefit.

 

^ Good information. I feel that an electric fan will draw less resistance from the motor. I don't know the specs but it just seems that it would not pull much current at all and would not be a major drag on the alt.

Also it would weigh a lot less than a traditional fan. But as kurdain stated above they both will only be running when needed. So really it's just a matter of figuring out which style has the least amount of overall resistance on the motor.
