I'm still fascinated at the systemic ineptitude of this problem.

I had to fix my own whistle which was possible due to this thread.

I'd still have a whistle 6 months after buying my car if I hadn't taken initiative on my own. The degree to which they kind of shrug their shoulders is pathetic.

Customers have practically figured out the problem a million years ago and they still seem in the dark on it.

I pointed out to them that most if not all the trucks in their lot are defective because of this.

Anyway, this thread is the cure.

After reading all these threads, apparently there are two types of whistle in question. The deer call whistle is a windshield thing. The high pitch whistle is a grill to hood seal thing.
My 2013 had the high pitch whistle that I fixed with $1.53 (3 feet) of windshield washer hose (1/4" OD) purchased at Napa. The hose didn't simply slide in there as the pictures in this thread illustrated. The 2013 upper channel of the grill to hood seal was smaller. I fished the tubing through with a wire attached to a string tied to the tubing then pushed and pulled it through with wd40's help to slid it though.
Problem fixed with no dealership hassles.
    Thanks TacomaWorld

Just as an update, I got the grill installed about a week ago and haven't heard the whistle yet.

Did they give you any grief about the TSB being only for the 2012 year so far?

I took delivery of my 2013 last Friday and the noise popped up on mine this morning once I hit 45 on the highway. Frustrating to have a truck with 200 miles on the odometer and something has already come up, let alone to hear that some people are getting the run around for trying the drip line fix.

Man I'm glad I don't have this, sounds annoying as hell!

On the other hand, my drivers side window controls vibrate a bit when I have loudish music playing. If I touch the panel with the switches it stops. I might need to take apart the door and foam tape it up.

There are two TSB's out for whistling noises on the 2012; one is the grille and the other is a windshield. Seems like both might apply to the 2013 too. Grumble grumble.

Yes, that's what I want out of a four day old truck: to invoke memories of an old El Camino.

Took home a 2013 Tacoma a couple weeks ago and was instantly losing my mind over this whistling. A google search later I discovered this thread, and my problems are solved. 1/4" OD drain tube from Home Depot and some WD 40 work miracles. I am now a member of Tacoma World, and look forward to gleaning even more great tips and info.

    Coming soon!
Had mine in to the dealership last Saturday for the 5000 "service" i.e. free oil change. I told them my 2013 DCSB started it the day I drove it off the lot. I told them I figured it was either the grill or windshield after researching it online. The punk kid service writer responded quickly with, "Oh no it can't be 'cause that was on the 2012s and they've fixed it since then," to which I replied, "Wanna bet?"

At any rate, he heard it for himself and said I'd have to bring it back and leave it at least a whole day for them to "figure out what was causing it." I'm doing the hose trick tomorrow and hoping it works.

My '13 had the 40mph whistle. I noticed that the gap between the grill and hood was not parallel the day I bought it. I loosened up the passenger side top grill bolt, pushed the grill in, and re-tightened. Gap is parallel & whistle is gone!

I took mine into the dealer, so at least the problem is documented by them and they can spent the $2 for hose. They told me they found a fix online (I'm assuming from here) and inserted some hosing. At first it was gone, now I can still slightly hear it. It moved from starting at 45mph to now around 60ish. I'll revisit their fix to see what they actually shoved in there.

Does anyone know if the problem is solved by installing a bug deflector? I'm looking at non-OEM ones that would mount under the hood, and would think it would reduce that gap size even more.
