Tacoma or 4Runner Trail

Looking for pro's and con's...

I'm going to be in the market soon for new vehicle and have narrowed it done to:

2012 4wd TRD Offroad Tacoma Short Bed, 4 door.
Or
2012 4Runner Trail edition.

Pros of Tacoma: great offroad capabilities, great looks.
Cons of Tacoma: un-secure rear storage without a shell or toneau cover, no power seats, no moonroof option.

Pros of 4Runner: Good offroad (?), inside storage, power seats, moonroof.
Cons of 4Runner: not too keen on the looks (maybe just need some Mods?)

Also, Tacoma runs $35k, vs $41k for 4Runner (sticker prices).

The money is not a huge issue.. What do you think??

4Runner. I test drove the Trail, it's incredible. As much as I love my Tacoma, the 4Runner is the only thing I actually want more.

 

Depends on what you want to do. Keep in mind $6K can pay for a good long-travel setup in the front that will make the Taco more off-road capable than a stock 4Runner.

Someone on the T4R bought a platinum and made it a trail replica and he said it cost a crap ton. So I dont suggest buying an SR5 to make it look like the trail. But youre right about how the Trail looks amazing.

4runner unless you need the utility of the bed.

3" and some 285's make the runner look sick....And they are very capable off road.

 

why no FJ option?

It's pretty simple.

 

Sorry to thread jack but I saw a raptor crew cab this weekend at the stealership.

As far as the decision. The 4Runner is pretty nice IMO.

 

Also, the new 4runner is far fatter than it needs to be. That doesn't really matter until you start wheeling pretty hard though.

3rd gen 4Runner was by far the best. 5VZ-FE please.

 

I see no handicap plate

 

I'd go taco, I like the option of having interior space, and a bed with the DC. I got a tonneau, a bed mat, and a tailgate lock... Now I can put things in the back like a 4 runner.

 

I would go with the Tacoma or if you just cant make up your mind get them both thats what i did

There's a reason they ran a basically stock Trail Edition 4Runner through the Rubicon trail.

Would a tacoma TRD O/R be able to achieve the same? (if you add the sliders the 4Runner had)

 

With plenty of body damage, recovery, and opting out of the hardest obstacles.

The same would be possible with a similarly equipped Taco.

Easily.


The only real thing to debate with Taco v. 4Runner is aesthetics and do you need a bed. That's it.
