not sure about 08 starter--BUT previous year starters--EASY FIX--Contacts get worn out--and are easy to replace. any starter/alt shop will have parts.
As long as you are removing--it an easy check. AND CHEAPER than a replacement.

When I got my starter replaced they took off the driver side suspension to get to it.

Slow crank does sound like battery or cables--check the connections--most likely need to be cleaned--do the EASY STUFF first.
Clean batt posts and batt connections. make sure they are tight.
08 should not have starter problems--YET

If it's the original battery I would lean towards the battery even if they tested it. Did they actually test the battery under a load?

Yeah, thay load tested the batt. showed all good. its the orig. batt. as the trucks a 2008. It did start right up when we put jumper cables on it. im gonna watch it for a little while see if it does it again? We even turn the head lights on when it wouldnt start and thay where bright.
