If I want to lift it........prerunner or 4x4 ???

Guys, looking at trading my 2011 4x4 DCSB for a 2012.

Cant decide if I should go 4x4 or prerunner. I want to lift it (just for looks) and I dont want ANY VIBES!

So what is best for a nice looking lift, maybe 6 inch (I dont offroad at all). Prerunner or 4x4?

I'm guessing the cost to lift a prerunner is less than a 4x4 lift?

For looks I'd say get the prerunner and get spindles! There's a vendor here(I believe) selling 4" spindle lift for about $500 if I remember correctly..

 

i honestly don't think your going to find a 6 inch lift that has no tradeoff in the form of vibration or premature wear on parts. do it right or don't do it at all.

 

$500? I would get those in an instant...are you referring to the Maxtrac spindles that were casted wrong? Those are off the market and are supposedly going coming back on the market in Feb 2012...with a better quality product...There's Camburg spindles, which is what i'm saving up for a little over $1000 for the front spindles...From what I've read, they're the best option for lifting a prerunner...

 

I recommend 4x4. Maryland has seen some decent snow fall the past few years, I personally wouldn't want to be without it. RCD makes a 4.5" kit which would allow you to maintain stock suspension geometry (more or less? don't have the kit, just read about it) so you can minimize the chance of post-lift vibes.


However, if you do get a prerunner, spindles seem to be the way to go for a not-as-expensive-yet-effective lift.

 

if you are going to lift, you will run the risk of vibes. thats just the nature of the beast. usually, however, the vibes are minimal and there are steps you can take to reduce vibes that you may create from the lift. i have a 3" in the front and a 2" in the back and i have a very minimal take off shudder.... i dont even notice it anymore.

tha point is, just be aware that you may get some vibes no matter what lift you put on your truck.

 

good info guys.......problem is, I will skip the lift if I cant do it without vibes.....how about just some camburg 2.5" coilovers? ....guys still getting vibes with these?

 

Just because the price of the icons is higher doesn't mean you wont get the vibes...you're still changing the geometry in the suspension and putting something that technically shouldn't be there according to the person who designed the suspension and makes more money than I do.....you might vibe, you might not...

Buy a 2wd, get a 13" lift, put on 49s

 

i had a friend running that set up with no vibrations...it was great off road and had no vibes or weird noises...he also had polyurethane UCAS...it drove like a beast.

 

I looked on CST website. It shows no Tacoma parts, only Tundra. How much lift did you get with it?

 

I've got vibes from about 15-25mph that's it. I have Camburg 4 inch spindles with 5100s at .85 up front and the All-Pro Expos in the rear that give anywhere between 3-4 inches of lift. I noticed my pinion angle was at about 6.5 degrees which is a bit extreme. I just got my 3 degree ToyTec axle shims today - this will bring it to 3.5 degrees. Once torque is applied the rear axle usually points upward another 1-2 degrees so I'm 90% confident this will get rid of my vibes.
