the other day i noticedthis strange smell . the smell is coming from the side where the break booster is . its not burning motor oil . so i got under my taco and it only has 50k miles. there is something leaking above onto the frame and some how getting onto my catalytic converter and burning and and smells like somthing i never have and it stinks like hell . any idea what it might be i think it might be coming from a leaking line from that spot ?

Still under warranty? Take it to the dealer. It may be you blinker fluid leaking though.

Lol +1 for sense of humor. Are you sure it's leaking on the cat's and not the headers? Maybe something with the power steering. I'd start by checking all of my fluids. Do you have tow package? Maybe something is leaking from the coolant lines for your trans.

Only fluid reservoirs over there IIRC is brake and possibly clutch.

I suppose it's possible thought very unlikely that somehow gear oil is backing up the breather tubes right there and some how dripping on your cat. That'd be pretty odd though.

There should only be AC heater fuel brake and vacuum lines around there I think. Maybe tranny cooler lines as said.

yeah its on the cats i can see it on there and its not getting on the headers . not clue how the hell its on the cats but its burning on there becuase i got under the truck to see if i can see where its coming from and yeah i got the tow package on my truck and my best guess is that it its coming from the lines running somewhere under where the drivers side dripping onto the fram and then however its getting on to the cat converter but its not on the cat heat sheild. seems stange to me

Next best course of action in the morning would to check all fluids on level ground. If all checks out then start it up and look for leaks if you still don't find anything let it run for a few minutes to let everything warm up the look again.

Could you have driven through something that splashed up on there and smells? Do you see any leaks? Drops on the garage floor? If so, what color is it?

idk it not thick like gear oil unless its coming from the steering ? its kinda yellow is from what i see. but most is like soaked into the metal like a slow leek not enough to drip . but i will watch the fluid and see. i think ill call the dealer tomorrow and see what they think or how they can rip me off !

Only thing I can think of that's that color would be brake fluid so maybe brake master or clutch slave?? Tranny fluid isn't yellow either. Have you checked all the fluid levels?

A "friend" put limburger cheese on my catalytic convertor when we were in high school. You want to talk about stink? It was almost liquid by the time I found it.

If you have a fluid leak at the brake booster, then it's probably brake fluid from a leaking master cylinder. Not sure why that would stink.

gear oil burning off smells really weird

Never smelled that until I tempered a tool in a bath of gear oil... it's bizzarre

I'd soak the whole fucking thing down with brake clean and see if it comes back
