Workman recommends 2 50-60# sandbags placed over the rear axle. This really helps when its -10F and solid ice on the roads. Workman knows that his truck is pretty decent in 4x4 in these conditions, but he doesn't want to use it around town all the time. He also knows that of all the pickups he has owned, this truck seems to be the WORST in winter with no weight in bed, on ICE, and in 2wd. The ABS is very dangerous in his opinion, but that's another topic.

He also has noticed how easily his pass. rear tire slips out, even in rain on steep paved hills. This pisses Workman off but he still loves his truck, even if it has a plastic bed.

He's also glad he has the rear locker, and not LSD. He likes using his rear locker:)

Workman agrees that these tires kick ass in the mud, and they probably plow through deep untracked snow. He disagrees that these would be good snow tires, as most real world snow driving is on packed down, solid ice roads. He has run similar mud tires on the ice, and he thought they sucked ass.

The cheapest option is to just go light on the accelerator.

Mine slips out on anything wet, 3" inches of snow the tires are awesome tho, basically due to the tires being so cold and not gripping, but after some driving it doesn't slip out to bad, all depends how you drive.

Instead get a 1/4" plate of steel, paint it, use the bed bolts to bolt it down, that way you don't have sandbags (that when they break open are just a pain) and you can put a bed mat over top of it and you would even know its there.

That's a great idea , but seems like it would be a pain in the ass to install / remove every season

I have never had to put any weight in the back of my Tacoma, unlike the Dodge Ram I used to have where I had 6 sand bags. Only weight in the back now is from the snow that accumulates back there. This is the first winter I have had these Duratracs on and I don't even need 4x4 where I would have with the stock junk tires. Really happy with this truck/tires in the snow.

It really isn't, even easier with a Tacoma, only have to do 4 bolts. Plus you can re-use each year, and don't have deal with the mess or the space that is taken up by sand-bags.

I noticed you have a 2011 Sport. If it is like mine, a 2010 Sport, the stock Dunlop tires are terrible. I only have 15,000 miles and they have significant tread wear. I am actually happy they are wearing out prematurely, this way I have a good excuse to replace them.

I have spun my '06 out a few times on a quick left up here in the PacWest Snow is alright but black ice is scary as shit. I've white knuckles with 400lbs of sand bag just ahead of he tail gate. It's light in the back, needs steady handed drivin' skill.

That being said, mines still straight! ;P

The Federal Couragia is a Chinese made tire that has relatively poor reviews, especially for longevity. If you want an American made M/T that won't break the bank, look at the Hercules Trail Digger M/T. They are even pre-pinned for traction studs.

They ran me $150 a piece. Just had them installed today. So far I like them. I'll be writing up a review once I get a little more use out of them...which will happen once I get the leafs replaced.
