Honestly I wouldn't be too concerned over that much water but fwiw I haven't noticed any water in my intake. I cut a hole and put some lexan over it at the filter box so I could check for things like that. Even in the snow and slush the filter box has stayed dry. Whether or not theres been water in the pipe I can't say.

Thats from rain. During the last snow storm the snorkel at the top was about half clogged...

Nope, but I also haven't checked.

This is what I found yesterday

sucked through this hole I forgot to fill

    from hitting this hole

    so I filled it in

and threw a window in there like Max did ....VVV

I like the function of the pre filters, but that wouldn't last a week in my trails I'm suspecting. I regularly bounce mine off branches.

I would also imagine the loss of the ram air effect at highway speed. I know many people talk about how a snorkel restricts the airflow and then people say this and that about putting one on a dyno. To this day I know of no dyno that can replicate 40mph wind being forced into the intake.

I just turn mine around and have had good luck the past 2 winters. I never worry about rain. These things were made for just about every weather from tropical conditions to deserts.

I know these are Hilux snorkels but whats the difference mechanically? A little less airflow or more being sucked in - that's it. There is no major change in use from the Hilux to Tacoma when comparing gas/gas engines.

Yea I understand there should be any difference between the yota's and Hilux. My issue is the water pooled up in the pipe, i checked it after another rain and it was wet all the way to the last fin before the filter cover... I used the stock intake pipe. I would leave the tip turned around, but my wallet dosnt agree with the mpg's

I would contact Kurt, ARB, and or Safari with your issue. I'm sure we all have it - your just the only one to check.

I can say with 100% assurance I saw NO signs of water on my stock filter box besides what mud got sucked in through the hole I forgot to seal.

I will say this summer I washed my truck with a garden hose. It sat most of the summer since I had a work truck and fucking North Dakota has spiders galore. So I took it for a spirited drive after the wash to try to dislodge spiders. Actually, ended up spraying it with poison after finding more spiders --big and tiny bastards-- after my 1500 mile drive back home. Anyway... took it for a spirited drive after the wash and it was doing a really odd surging thing at very high rpms. No CEL. Pulled over and investigated. When I pulled the filter it was pretty wet. I was able to fling water out of it, like decent amounts. Got as much water out, drove it the mile back home and let the filter dry overnight, no issues since. Didn't think I got the stream that close to the head either, might have been washing the back of it for spiders that got me, blowing up and under and then down. So... anyway, yeah.

I would install a drain tube with a one way check valve.

Lol that's quite the story max! Interesting though about the water. Is your snorkel head faced forward or back?

Faced forward, I'll rotate it around if it's snowing any decent amount though.

I will say I haven't noticed any issues with rain, or even doing this just the one time.

Seriously though, I found a big spider behind one of the rubber bumper caps on my ARB when I got home. North West ND all the way to fucking Reno, he stayed in there. Not to mention all the tiny spiders the size of a pin head popping up new webs daily. I wanted to burn my truck to the ground. I HATE spiders, indescribably hate. I washed the piss out of it when I found him, and then sprayed with lots of poison, all over the outside. No spiders inside thank god.

    but uhh back to snorkels...
I've been thinking of carrying an extra filter on longer trips though, just in case.

For regular winter driving I just turn the snorkel around backwards but for parking outside for long periods of time, like when I'm at work etc I do this.

Talk about embarrassing. Unfortunately it's effective but ugly. I was thinking about making a cover I can clip on or something like an elastic neoprene cover to slip over the opening....
