In the one year Ive had the truck, never had reason to put it in 4x4 mode. Why have all that to move around if you dont use it?

Well, seeing as how your looking to trade a 2011 for the new 2012, You probably will trade the 2012 in for The 4th gen just as quickly ;) All i know is, If i dont see a V8 option with the 4th gen, And a limited edition with leather. Im going to be very disappointed in Toyota.

Believe me, Having that comfort is real nice when you need it. You might need it for a number of reasons, i don't know if they apply to you but ive had to use my tacoma to rope up to a couple dead stumps we had on our property that were a fire danger, Had to throw my truck in 4wd for that. I think id rather be prepared in a situation, Rather then saying... F*** Should have gotten 4wd!

Oh and to the guy arguing Spindle lifts, If you lift a 4x4 tacoma with the right suspension, and upgrade your tires i guarantee you will see around 4" of lift. I gained almost a full inch just doing by adding BFGoodrich All terrains. So honestly you wont see a huge difference between a 3" on a 4x4 and a 4" on a prerunner.

I guess im considering the 2012 the 3rd gen, Im sure they wont change much in the 2013-2014 models. How much of a change do you need to consider it a new gen?

i knew someone who once traded in a new boat every year for 4 straight years. they took a BATH each and every time. but they didn't like what they had and kept trading it in until they found one they wanted to keep.

so, i guess as long as you go in with eyes wide open, go for it. i just wonder if you would get a better deal finding a low mileage prerunner and not lose your shirt trading in your '11. but hey, to each their own.

Lifts heights are usually without taking the tires into account

ie : a 3" lift is 3" of suspension lift , not 2" of suspension lift and an inch of bigger tire

Max suspension lift on these trucks with 4x4 is about 3 1/2" , anything over 3" generally creates pretty bad CV angles

I say keep your 2011 take the cash you would have lost on the trade, buy a lift, parts ect.. If I had a stock 2012 & my 08 in my garage I'd be looking at my 08. I could go buy a 2012 and lift it ect.. The thing is no need to spend the cash. The 2009 - 2012 has the extras but not a lift and 33" . I have the cash but why? Also if don't own it dont do it. Don't fall into that payment BS. Pay it off and build it ;)

What a derp thread. Let the guy trade his hardly used vehicle for another one - next year he will do the same and loose the same $4k. Whatever floats his boat.

I'd loose $800 - $1000 and get a brand new truck with 0 miles. They are willing to give me $26K for my truck. I paid $27K. new truck would be $26K. How do I say NO to this deal ???????????

If I had a truck that was a different configuration than I needed , I wouldn't hesitate to change it for that kind of money .

Your truck , your choice OP
