I performed the heated mirror mod today. The most difficult part of the whole project for me was getting the new mirrors to snap into the back plate. I thought that I might break something because you have to push pretty hard to get them to snap in. Everything else was straight forward. It looks like a factory install. Thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread.

Finally had time to knock this mod out before winter. No more frozen mirrors or fog EVER!!!! Thanks Toyota, for the chewed up hands, and lighter wallet. $34,000 PLUS for a truck and no friggin heated mirrors, not anymore... Well worth the effort and hassle. The key is Patiences, Patiences, Patiences..... Wiring diagram was spot on. Only thing I did differently was I soldered the Pos. and Neg leads to the mirror and then shrink tubed them. Thanks to everyone who contributed!:D

Did this mod over the weekend with help from a friend. Hasn't been cool enough yet to defrost, but mirrors did heat up quickly in just a couple minutes. Figure I will use it to clear a heavy dew in the next few weeks before a frost comes through... thanks Ben for the quick responses to questions and to all who contributed information.

Most difficult and time consuming part of the entire project, IMO, was fishing the damn wires into the doors...

But I'll do it all over again the day I trade this Tacoma in on another!

Yes, used the numbers at the start of the thread from http://www.toyotaonlineparts.com

Also went with the Sumitomo option, and turns out I may not have needed the amber bulb, but got it anyway.

Add me to the list. Got this done yesterday. Took me a few hours over the span of about 3 days due to stuff coming up while in the middle of the install. The wiring diagram was perfect. I'll concur with others that the pushing the mirrors back on was a B!#* and I also felt like I was about to break them, but didn't. As for getting wires into the cab, follow the advice given and unplug the boots from the door and the cab. Your life will be 10000 times easier if you do. The final install looks and works just like it was done at the factory - which makes me ask myself for the 100th time WHY DIDN'T TOYOTA DO THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE????

Thanks for the OP and everyone else that put this together.

I took a couple when I first took the door panels and mirrors off, but to be honest the pics on the first page pretty much sum it all up. Between those and the links to vids for door panel removal you have everything you need to get this done! :)

I started this mod today. Not the simplest thing I've done but going good. Finished the left door and got the relay and switch harnes built. I'm having trouble figuring out where to tap onto for the switch illumination. Can someone help me here? Wire colors would be helpfully too. It's a '14 model. My switch location will be the same as the OP. thanks.

You can tap into the fog light switch, just like the OP did. I tapped into two green wires on that switch. The only thing I did different was that instead of cutting the wires on the fog light harness and splicing into them from the heated mirror harness, I cut off the two terminals on the green wires (after verifying that the sumitomo terminals I had fit). I then connected each original wire for the fog light plus the wire from #1 and #2 on the mirror harness into a new terminal and put the terminal back into the fog light harness. I was glad I ordered a few extra terminals because this worked out perfectly. As far as what connects to what, if I recall correctly #1 from mirror harness connects to the solid green in the fog light harness and #2 connects to the green w/strip on fog light harness.

    Hope this helps.
