Timing chain cover leak

Is it worth getting this fixed? 1300 dollars since I'm at 78k miles.
It's not that bad but that's alot of money

I just noticed it today and then I saw the tsb up to 60k with doesn't help me. I bought this truck from a guy who was leasing it but in order for me to buy it from him , he had to first buy the vehicle he was leasing from Toyota. It's an 2007 and when I got it it had 46k. So would they have done a 7 year 100k power train on this? I'll check Monday just curious yalls thoughts

 

what have y'all paid to non dealer mechanics to fix this?

i got quoted around 700 from an independent mech. I cleaned it up real nice and found the small crevice. Its so minimal and scarce that i think I'm just going to wait it out till it gets bad.

What yalls thoughts on maybe putting a small layer of engine silicone adhesive on the crevice making sure the surface is clean and dry? would i be wasting my time?

 

Supposedly there are dealers who try to do this under warranty.

I have done such things before. Sometimes get lucky, other times not.

 

Today, Oct 11, 2017, Toyota dealer quoted $2,500 to fix timing chain cover leak on '06 Tac with 76K miles. Independent garage quoted $2,000 for labor only, that's 20 hours at $100 per.

 

If your fixing it; I recommend using Hondabond; its the best stuff out there for sealing anything. I use it on timing covers, water pump housings, thermostat housings ect. and when I rebuild transmissions; this stuff will stick to anything and it cures within a good 30-45minutes, sometimes as quick as 15minutes if its warm out. It'll still seal even with oil on the surface, its not like the cheap RTV stuff that requires 12-24 hours of curing time before your able to use the vehicle. It does however cost about 20-25 bucks at the honda dealer.

I say try the hondabond on the area and see if it'll seal it up. Its good stuff and the only gasket/sealer maker that I use on any vehicle. I have yet to find anything else better and believe me I have tried everything out there; I build my own engines and rebuild a lot of transmissions.
