I was thinking about getting one for my Taco because the CRX that I bought had one on it already and it was really nice to look under the car to see that. I actually looked at a fumoto today and then I see this thread:D

It might help to describe the failure or tell us what happened. All I see is an out-of-focus dirty valve.

I've used fumoto valves on all my vehicles for a very long time. Sure makes oil changes a breeze.

I wouldn't put to much stock or worry about what the fear mongers have to say about this product. They are usually speaking from ignorance. When used and installed correctly, it is fantastic.

But aren't they like ratchets? How would you go about getting a socket over one of these? Looks like a standard wrench only OP.

A note about the fumoto valves if you do any 4 wheeling....
I did manage to hit mine sometime since my last oil change (probably spring creek)
I had a good 1/2" between the bottom of the nipple and the bottom of my pelfreybilt skid plate but I'm guessing that it was a combination taking a good hard shot that flexed/bent the skid upwards and the right shape rock making it up through the hole.
Anyways, the brass nipple is scratched and the whole valve bent backwards a bit. Actually, it's the oil pan that's bent. Fortunately, nothing is leaking so I'll probably just leave it as is but I might take a dremel and cut another 1/4" off the nipple so it doesn't get hit again.

I don't think one without the nipple would have ever been hit and I'm pretty comfortable with cutting a bit off this one, but you're right, I'm glad it didn't rip out on the trail.

Cool gadget but I cant even buy a Toyota oil filter for what my dealership charges for a oil change. Since its so cheap for them to do it, why do it myself?

Hell yeah, if I could get my oil changed for $6 I wouldn't do it myself either. I'd let some guy who was flipping burgers last week strip the bolt and under/over fill it.

I just installed one of these today while doing my first oil change. When I removed to drain plug, the washer was stuck to the pan. I tried to get it off, but it was pretty stubborn, so I just left it alone. I did install the Fumoto with the blue washer. No leaks yet, should I be worried, or is it typical for the washer to be stuck to the pan?

Putty knife or a small screwdriver will get that washer off. I would wait and see if it leaks. If is doesn't I wouldn't worry about it.

painted engine cover, bed cover, color match door handles, window tint, seat covers, weather gaurd floor mats, TRD stainless steel cat back exhaust, front skid pan, bug deflector, custom holster mount in center console, OME 884X springs and shocks, 2" AAL, OME shocks
It is slower but not terrible
open the valve first, let it drain while your taking off the engine cover and changing the filter
check other fluids and stuff, by that time it will probably be done draining.
I have the one with a NIPPLE
I know no one cares I just wanted to type NIPPLE

    I've read that too.

I'd have a tough time relying on a $25 part sticking out and holding back oil. One screw up, and it will cost you +8K for a rebuilt engine.

When I change my oil, I have to get under the truck anyway, I have no problem loosening a bolt while I'm under there.
