Is that a standard automotive style pinout? I work in industrial and you can often find some pretty crazy relays but the trick is to find an okay mounting solution. Even if you have to use two automotive relays it might be cleaner than rigging up a completely custom mount for a single relay. Personal preference though.

Standard 5 pin automotive relays are SPDT, so you would need 4, but I'm considering that as well, just assembling a bank of four in a modular base. The biggest appeal to me with that idea is the ready availability for replacement if ever needed, but then again, I doubt I'd ever use 2lo enough to "wear out" a relay of any type.

With that 14 pin one I posted, I'd probably mount it by the side with doublesided foam tape, and use high quality insulated female spade connectors, or solder and shrink each one individually. Or, maybe there are single bases available for them, I'll have to look now.:)

Omron PTF14A is the base for the relay I linked to, it has 14 set screw type terminals, would make for a very clean end result, especially if there is room and enough harness length to use only the factory wires, ie, without extending them at all.

I don't think they are long enough for that. a short wiring harness is easier to work with.

Oops. I think i was thinking of a dual make SPST, but I'm pretty sure that won't work here. Carry on.

So... I just tried the mod using 2 relays and one switch and it didn't work... When the switch is off everything seems to work fine. When I flip the switch on, the 4x4 and 4-lo lights just flash at me... Is it possible this doesn't work on Taco's with full traction control?

EDIT: I was just comparing the two diagrams and I don't think they quite match up, well unless our relay diagrams are different. I'm going to play with it and see what I come up with.

So when we flip the switch we want to ground the wires coming from the ECU and just disconnect the wires coming from the ADD right? I believe that is what your diagram using 2 swtiches shows, but the other diagram grounds the wires coming from the ADD.

Yep I believe that was the problem. It seems to be working now. I just need to throw everything back together and take it for a spin to confirm.

I haven't read through this thread. Is the switch to engage the ADD or lock it out? If it is to engage it, then you will need to move the truck a slight amount for engagement to actually happen. I have a switch for my ADD in conjunction with the manual Tcase, and this is how it works.

It is to disable it so that you essentially can obtain 2Lo on the factory Tcase.

Yep it all works like it is supposed to, just not quite like I expected it to. haha

So I have full traction control and I hate when the roads are slick and one of the tires slips when you try to leave from a stop sign. The TRAC engages by braking the slipping tire and the VSC engages by shutting off the throttle which will basically cause you to coast or sit there. Well when you shift into 4WD VSC turns off but TRAC stays on (basically ATRAC). I was hoping that by disengaging the ADD and shifting into 4Hi the VSC would basically shut off and I would have an electronic limited slip rather than an open diff in 2WD. Well when I disengage the diff and shift into 4Hi the VSC light stays off so I'm guessing it is still engaged... I wonder if I can find a simple wire in there that tells it to disengage when in 4WD.

In that diagram, are those swinging arm looking things switches? and if so what exactly activates them? I have being tearing throw the FSM's trying to understand what is going on and I'm a little confused there.

Edit: A little closer, so I think the signal to disable the VSC is sent off in the junction box on the LG-B wire, so if I grounded that side of the wire it would turn the VSC off like 4WD does normally, but it would also power the ADD wire in the ADD. What exactly does that wire do? I know the motor engages the ADD, but what do the rest of the wires have to do with the ADD>

Wow his 2nd post! Way to make friends.
Can anyone confirm if this works on 2012 OR? I would love to have 2lo, so many instances to use it. Nice write up/diagram.

Next time just send a pm and tell me I made a mistake. Don't post on the thread and try to make me look stupid. May not have been your intent but that is the way it was taken!;)
