Help...Are there different size Center Caps for 17'' TRD Sport Rims?

Just wondering if the centercaps or hubcaps off a 17" TRD Sport rim would fit any year? My neighbor has a 2006 TRD Sport and recently bought a set of 2007 TRD Sport rims and tires off craigslist for a good price, however, the rims didn't come with the caps. He is trying to make the caps off his 2006 fit onto these new rims but it's as if the clip portion on the cap is too short to reach the groove they sit in on the rim.

I thought all years 05-11 17'' TRD Sport rims were identical, is there something missing or is he doing something wrong?

I have that same problem with the extra spare sport rim i bought.
