The only reason I am wanting to do this is the mileage reason. I want my Tacoma to last awhile but I also do not want to pick up the payment. I did get approved for the loan but did not give them a decision yet. I think I was in the process of making a rash decision and am going to sleep on it tonight.

Goodluck with the Decision just know that truck can probably take the mileage and do it way cheaper then your other options. but either way you go is understandable.

What are some mileages people have on their 2nd gens? I know my grandfather had an 88 toyota with 220,000 miles on it when he passed. Are the 2nd gens that reliable on higher mileages or has anyone really even racked that many miles yet?

Ohh okay. Just making sure. Sounds like you were trying to persuade him to keep the Taco which got me  As long as we're on the same page.

If I were to get a commuter truck/suv I'd get the Ford Ranger :)

My parents had a 1999 Ranger that I learned to drive in. It was a good truck but they only kept it for about a year after I put the ony 2,500 miles on it then when I got my Civic it just sat there.

    THIS ^^^

Or get a 40+ MPG non hybrid and drive the shit out of it, you can get an old Corrolla or Civic for sub $6k that is still good, and you shouldn't need a loan for that, then you save on the interest and hassle.

Still, you bought the Tacoma to drive it right?

You don't want to drive your Tacoma because you want to have it for a long time? What's the point of having it if you don't use it? Drive the Tacoma till the wheels fall off then buy another, or get something different if you want at that time.

I'm just thinking out loud here.

If you took the money you're going to spend on the 4-Runner and put it into a savings account every month, and then drove your Tacoma into the ground, say putting 240,000 miles on it in 4 years, you'd have plenty saved up to buy a brand new Tacoma.

I ran it through a calculator. If you put $350/mo into a savings account that earns 1% interest, you'd have just over $17,000 at the end of four years. And your Taco will be about five years old with 240,000 miles on it, so throwing some wild assed guesses into KBB's trade-in calculator and assuming you've used it hard enough that it's in "fair" condition, it has a trade-in value of about $5,000.

So four years from now, you could walk in with $17,000 cash and $5,000 trade-in. That's $22,000 toward a brand new Tacoma.

We did that for years but it is to much of a hassle to be in the used car business. Also, if the salesmen buy their own car they take care of it better and it lasts longer.

That's good thinking but the deal fell through around 9 tonight when they sent me the interest rate.

THe $650 includes everything though, insurance, monthly payment, maintenance and cleaning. We do not get anything extra to go get the oil changed or whatever may go wrong with the vehicle.

Yeah, supplying cars they would have to also pay for maintenance, insurance, everything. Most companies provide a Chevy Malibu or something like that. The last company car a salesman had with us was a CHevy Tahoe. I'm guessing it cost around $40,000.00. My dad tries to treat his salesmen correct and give them nice things so they will in turn try to work a little harder because they have nice things.
