I am in the process of buying a 2004 4Runner to keep the miles off the Taco. I have put over 10,000 miles on it since Nov. 1 and it is now killing me to keep driving it. Still going to use it to carry equipment for work but going to use the 4RUnner for everday scooting around town and rack the miles on it. It has 84,000 miles on it but that is nothing for a Toyota. Hopefully I will get approved for the loan......

    B/c he's "buying" a 4R?

Still dont get it though. Why waste the money on a 4runner? Just use the taco. Thats what its meant for, ya know?

Understandable. Good luck with the loan. Why not get a rav4 instead of the runner

Seems like that would be a very close $ call. Gas+Insurance on both seems like it would be close to gas/wear and tear on the Taco @ 5K a month.

why did you bother buying the taco then?

So if you hit 90k on the 4runner you gonna buy a carolla to save the miles on the 4runner?

    :p

Why? This does not make any sense. For what you spend on buying another vehicle, then insurance, maintenance, money strained. Just use your Tacoma.

I got the Tacoma when all i did was commute 6 miles each way for work but I have since been promoted to sales across central NC and do not want to rack up the miles on the Tacoma

So that means you are going to pay for insurance on two cars to save wear on one...If it makes you happy man....Have fun.

And I moved this to 2nd Gen.

I was going to do the same and purchase a Camry it's actually not that much more to insure

In my case 2012 camry was only $45 more a month to insure
And as far as maintenance he would spend the same on 4runner than he would on his taco

That is what I was thinking. Since I woud only be driving the Taco on the weekends the miles would not add up and it still has 10,000 miles on warranty and 2 years. So maintenance would cease on it and i don't really see to many problems with the 4runner being that I am buying it from a reputible local dealer who adds an extended warranty to every vehicle for a very minimal price.

it's my families business and I get a salary also so the vehicle allowance has just been a bonus the past few months for me. the sales will be there (commercial food equipment), just have to drive all the time to make them happen.

Not trying to change your mind but toyota makes strong trucks, capable of taking some hard miles. IF I were you i'd keep the taco and save your money. Like stated gas isn't an issue if your company pays for it. However you could get possibly 300k on the truck without a problem (major) if you just take care of it. Then buying a new engine years down the road is way more inexpensive then two car payments and so forth.
