Did the 3" lift before putting those same tires on the stock wheels but also added the 1.25" SpyderTrax wheel spacers which may actually have pushed the tire turning radius out causing some rubbing in reverse with the wheels turned hard either way. Only had to trim some inside fender well plastic, easy with a dremel now no rubbing at all.

 are those even approved for 285s?

They are going to rub even after the lift. With a 10" width and -32 offset, they stick out 4.5" more than stock wheels.

You should go with a 16x8 with zero offset for those tires.

The problem is the rims, not the tires. You can't run 265s on 10" wide rims.

    Your options basically are:
    1. Buy new rims with the correct specs
    2. Get a 6" lift
    3. Get out the angle grinder and cut your fenders.

    265/75/16 = 31.6x10.4/16 265's should fit on a 10 in rim
by the way they just rub a bit.

Uh, right. But there's more to it.

The tire manufacturer expects the tire to be mounted on a rim that's narrower than the rim by a certain amount.

You can find this rim width on the manufacturers website under detailed specs for the tire at the specific size.

People have different tolerances for rubbing and some guys never turn the steering wheel to full lock.

KPT has given you sound, correct advice. Whether you follow it is up to you.

I'm well aware, in fact I have many of the common sizes memorized. Like I said and BJmoose confirmed, you can't just use tread width as a proxy for a safe width for the bead seat.

Those rims simply aren't meant for what you are trying to accomplish. The specs on them are designed for huge lifts with huge tires (think 6" lift with 35x12.5's).

Here it is directly from the BFG website. Their 265/75/16s are only approved for 7-8" wide rims. And the 285/75/16s you have on there now are only approved for up to 9" wide rims.

What are you going to do about the fact that you are running the tires on a unsafe rim size, stretching the bead beyond it's approved limits?

Just out of curiosity, who gave you the advice that this wheel would work, and that 285/75/16's would fit without a lift before you bought both?

Well the profiles of each brand and model of tires are different. One model of 285 section width tires may have a wider profile at the bead than another. Hence some brands are approved for 10" rims, and some are not. Yours are not.

That's doesn't mean it's safe. People do unsafe things all the time.

Do what you want man but I'm just trying to help here. You'll have far less headaches in this whole endeavor if you just get some rims with the correct specs for our trucks.
