I have an 08 Tacoma SR5 and it does not have the overhead temp/compass in it and was wondering if the wiring for it is in place so I can get one from a wreck or used and put it in without having to run a bunch of wires?

all of the wiring should be there, if you remove the single screw in your overhead compartment and pull it off, you SHOULD see two plugs, one goes into your dome lights, and the other goes into a blank. If you buy the temp/compass meter, then it should plug right in there, the only other thing you'll need is the ambient air sensor, as well as the console of course.

Thanks for the info, that is what I wanted to hear. Now I can check and see if the plug is there and if so the parts search begins. It'll be nice to have an extra toy in my Toy but the search for parts and putting all the things in is probably the biggest fun for me, yes I know I'm weird. LOL.

Do spend lots of time searching- Paying new prices is expensive for that stuff. Upwards of 1K IIRC from folks who have had temp console malfunctions.

I had just looked into this a few days ago, because I just purchased a set up last week, the prices are pretty crazy, esp for the features we are getting, but not quite 1K

    this was from post #12

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd...ure-gauge.html

I think the overhead console retails for about 180ish and you can find one new online for about 130ish

I think the compass/temp meter is about 160ish and you can find one new for about 120ish,

the ambient air sensor is about 18ish and you can find them for 12ish, these are all new parts, of course getting used from another member will be much better

also we briefly discussed getting gentex mirrors as well

Just an FYI on these, only the 05 thru 08 consoles will work in 05 thru 08 trucks.
While they look the same the 09 and up consoles are different and will not work in a 05 thru 08 truck.

One other note, you can check for the sensor plug behind the grille, normally under the left (drivers side) headlight.

Links would be nice, I'm going to take my time and try to find used stuff from fellow members and at junk yards. Is the sensor plug under the drivers headlight any particular color?

Hey nammer, do you think you can help me double check to make sure that I don't have the wiring to do this mod during the Tampa meet??? I looked the other day and didn't see it. I may have missed it as its hard for me to get my big ass hands and arms down in there to really check. May take off the grill on monday and see if I can't find it that way but if I can't would like to have someone besides me take a look.

i can def take a look at it for you, but this evening when I go out to the truck I'll take pics of where the clip is, so that you can release the harness down, that'll help you a lot, IF it's there, but it sounds like MOST of our trucks have them. That way you'll hopefully know a few weeks earlier, cause if you're anything like me, you'll want it done RIGHT away.

It is my understanding that all 6 lug wheel Tacomas are pre-wired, 5 lug Tacomas are not.

that one plastic clip right there, if you press that in, and let it drop, the plug should be attached to that, it's pretty much hidden otherwise, and you wouldn't be able to see it, only feel it, you can also trace it back from the wires leading to your horn.

Mine is an 08 5 lug and doesn't have the temp/sensor plug out front so I guess that is where I end. Thanks for all the advice.

Ok nammer......I finally got a chance to go out and look again. I removed the black cover on top that covers the gap in front of the radiator. I pushed in the clip u were talking about to be able to pull the wires out. There is only the two that go to two horns.....when I follow it back they go back to the lights on the drivers side and to a ribbed aluminum square. I will attach a picture so u can hopefully tell me what it is?? I can't find any loose connector. Let me know what u think or if u have any other ideas. Really want to do this mod so hoping its there somewhere!!

I don't think you would have had to remove the black cover, I think you and I are talking about the same clip, but I wanted to make sure this was it.
