What does it take to put a rear locker on a 07 4x4?? Anyone know if it is a simple add on or does it take a new rear axle. May be some computer issues with the controller??? and is there a light on the dash that just wasn't enabled.

    your truely,

    TRD envy

ARB, Eaton, Detroit, Lock right, are all good options to think about when deciding to get a locker.

    Research research research!

Aftermarket for sure....overall easier & cheaper.

There are soooo many different types of traction devices that do different things. They also have variations in cost & installation time, & drivabilitiy characteristics.

What are you looking for in a locker?

I wonder if you could yank an axle off one with a factory locker from a front end impact at a junkyard and just wire it up? I have no idea how much is pre-wired though. Seems like they run all the wires needed for 99% of the accessories regardless of if they're included or not.

^That's a good point. I'd like to add a locker at some point myself. I don't offroad much but it would be nice to have, especially with a Prerunner.

Not to mention a toggle switch could probably be wired up if the factory wiring wasn't there since it's just an electrical actuator. Might be simpler than doing a full factory wire job, and then having to mod it for any time usage.

Probably be cheaper and easier than most aftermarket options except for the "lunch box" type ones that ratchet and just replace the factory gears.

I can agree with that - but the cost might not agree with some folks.

The locker (or LSD) will probably be cheaper than the install unless you have a buddy do it. Worth it if you have the bucks.

Great writeup... Is it not possible to add the components to the rear diff as opposed to swaping axels.

Nope. Slightly different "pumpkin" on the 8" E-locker axel than the 8.4" Non TRD axel.
