K&N air filter MPG increase?

I have a 10' Tacoma, and am thinking about the K&N air filter for my truck. People have raved that it increases gas mileage by 2-4 miles. Is this true in Tacomas?

ther is a whole tread on this subject. And its all over the board. Some say it works some say it dose not. with the system by its self i dont think you will get that much of an increase in mileage. I do think you will see a torc increase. i put a K&N filter in stock system with a flowmaster 40 and picked up 1 mile more??? i have a 4.0 V6 auto. Let me know what you do.

 

no difference in mpg, but dont have to buy expensive filters, so it pays for itself real quick

 

The only thing good about K&N is their excellent marketing department.

Don't do it...the oil cause dirt to stick to your emission sensors!

I average 20-22 mpg. All back roads. 4.0 v6, 4x2, automatic. I have the k&n drop in filter and magnaflow exhaust. I don't think I get much more than about average mileage. But I also don't have to buy another filter, just clean this one.

 

I went with the TRD filter, no improvement.

I have recently installed a KandN airfilter on my 2012 tacoma 4x4 and I just filled up today my average went from 19.6 to 18.4. I don't know maybe mileage will increase on the next couple of tanks then again maybe not we will see. Hopefully this will help in your decision.

 

Being that I sell all the major brands of performance filters, I get that question several times daily. There are far too many variables at play for anyone to promise an accurate mileage gain. General running condition of the truck, 2WD/4WD, weight, towing/hauling, daily weather, your driving style .. just to name a few.

Is it possible? .. YES. How much? .. If the Sun, Moon, and stars are all aligned, and everything else is perfect .. I have rarely heard more than 2MPG that I would count on.

 

Even if the sun, moon, stars and pluto align the mpg will be the same as a clogged oem filter.

Agree with the oil getting on the sensors. I have the K&N CAI on my 06' AC 4x4 which was already installed on my Taco when I bought it. I think changing the drop-in air filter on the OEM is much simpler than cleaning and re-oiling every 10-15k.
