make your own bed bike mount

Just want to share a cheap way to carry bikes on the back. I made this for under $20. Bought the mount rack carrier on Ebay for around $15. Bolts and washers from Home depot for under $2. I carry two road bikes. They weight about 20lbs each. Not sure about carrying heavy mountain bikes. I've been mounting my bikes this way for over 500miles and no problems. Once in a while I make sure the cleats are tight.

you can do the same thing without the cleats, I personally think it looks better, but just my opinion, picked up some nuts, bolts, and washers at home depot, and same type of fork mount

 

I mounted mine the same way nammer, except instead of using the washers, I got 1" flat aluminum and cut to the same length as the mounts, drilled 2 holes and slid them into the bed railing, much more secure. I was having problems with them moving and the washers popping out and almost losing the bike while driving down the road.

Also when its football season and I'm not riding my bike it is converted into my flag holder. I took some 1" flat steel and and bent it around the bike mount with enough to drill holes and slide the rod through.

 

Great idea! Wish I saw this before I forked out $100 bucks on a Yakima bike rack. Oh well.

 

Make that three of us Nammer, except I used wing bolts to make it adjustable.

 

Where are you guys getting the fork mount?? I want to do this as well.

yea i got mine from pricepoint as well, I actually picked up 2 fork mounts because I think the shipping was the same, it came out to 25 for 2 shipped, I actually only have 1 bike, but I figured might as well save on shipping

all good ideas. I will be doing something like this too, but with a 15mm axle setup.

However the OP has bed lights that make the alternatives too low.

Ordered 2 mounts and t-nuts from Amazon.
Bought flanged 3/8 bolts at Tractor Supply.

Drilled out aluminum fork mouts to 3/8 and Bob's your uncle all done.

Total cost 40 bucks for two mounts and hardware..
