I just got the besttop. Like that you can just run as a canopy. It is tight and dousnt flap around. If cold out tough to get windows in. Warm no problems at all

This would lead me to assume you have or have had experience with the bestop as well. I have a bestop and its litteraly the best investment I have made for my truck to date. And bestop is the actual company that jeep contracts for their tops. not talking shit on the supertop but I like the Windows in the best top . Typically i leave them out and just have the canopy up, great visibility. And folds down in a second. I think it cones down to... Like someone else said, do you like the solid sides or Windows (or open) . I have not heard much negative about either of these products.

That is really the only difference between these two tops. One has windows and the other doesn't.

I looked into this before I actually got my truck and then tabled it. But now I'm thinkin about it again... I just LOVE the way the tan softopper looks... and the extra (fairly) dry storage is a huge plus. I'd probably transport smaller, low things more than something that will stick out the top anyway.

Speaking of which, can you mount bikes in the bed with one of these tops on? I'm talking about a fork mount on the front bedrail.

not to answer my own question but upon more research it doesnt seem this would be possible without first removing the handlebars or something... unfortunate.

No bikes are too tall with the forks on the bedrail...HOWEVER, you can have bikes upright with the forks on the flor of the bed (I have the rubber bedmat) under my bestop.

Interesting. How do you mount the forks to the bed floor?

I'm going to get the tan softopper for my timberland mica double cab. I was thinking of having the aluminum frame powder coated to match the color of the truck. Do you guys think that the layer of powder coat would affect the functionality of the top?

Either use zippers instead of velcro?... velcro usually turns to shit.

I have had my softopper for about three years. It was on my 03 before it was on my 2010. Looks good, fits well and keeps my stuff dry. The rear window just cracked on my last trip to enchanted rock. Other than that it has been flawless.

Can you get the boot for both of them? Is the storage boot even worth it?

the plastic cover on the tailgate keeps the paint protected from the flap.

the soft topper also has a bar across the back flap.

the flap behind the cab needs to be secured. I used snaps on a piece of plywood that I rigged to the rail system. I suppose Velcro would work but the snaps seem more secure.

This is the second Softopper I've owned on a Toyota. While I have not owned a Bestop, I would not buy one where I live. Every truck in town with a Bestop seems to have a side window duct taped or repaired in some way. This is usually due to the cold. I was told by one owner his damage occurred when removing snow. The windows get stiff and brittle in cold temps. I would like the side windows, but I am happy with the solid ones on my Softopper.

The front and rear can be removed (zippers and velcro). The sides and rear can be rolled up in place and secured. I also purchased a screen rear window for camping, though I have never used it. Apparently they sell a front screen window as well, but it was special order, so I held off. I occasionally run just the top to keep my dog in some shade. It drops in no time to load my dirt bike or other large items. The sides do not have to be rolled up to fold the whole thing down, just unbuttoned from the rail. I run a Dakine tailgate protector to carry bikes easily with just the rear rolled up.

People ask about it all the time. I love mine!
